I've noticed there's been a few threads about him recently, so something must be going right. I'll copy and paste a previous short post of mine.

He's rangy, about 6'3''-6'4'' with around an 80'' reach. I think the guy has all the tools to challenge for the titles at heavyweight. Anyone who has seen him fight will know what he's about. His size along with his athleticism, fleet-footedness, ring awareness, deceptive power and all-round boxing clinic really make him stand out from a lot of these lesser boxers in the division. I believe he's the only guy in the division who could potentially outbox Klitschko.

yea,,,,,gomez is hugely underrated on here by many. he's as technically sound as they come. he was obviously not in great physical and mental shape for diaz which is the main reason he lost but we cant totally dismiss that fight. it does make you wonder how he;d take the power of a klit,,peter ,,,brew or briggs,,,,but he does have as good or better a chance of beating those guys then anyone else I can think of and he does have the best chance out of anyone of outboxing wlad even though I'd definitely have to still make him a pretty good underdog. he'll make some noise if he keeps his head on straight and gets some big fights

Gomez is a vary viable contender in the heavyweight division. His greatest issues are his commitment and heart. It is widely known Gomez likes the blow and he doesn't always show up to train. If he is dedicated, then he is a force. If he isn't the Diaz fiasco will happen again.
