38-year old heavyweight contender James Toney – is putting his "Lights Out" stamp on any talk that his hall of fame career is over after two straight losses preceded by a draw. Dan Goossen, longtime promoter of the seven-time, multi-weight class world champion, revealed that Toney was given a complete medical examination in Los Angeles by Michael Levy, MD PhD. "Among the battery of administered tests completed were detailed ophthalmologic and neurological examinations," Goossen added. "The doctor said all facets of the eye exam including orbit and retina were normal. Neurologically, all components of the cranial nerve, motor, sensory, reflex, vestibular, and cognitive testing were also normal." Negotiations are underway for Toney’s return to action.

you gotta wonder what the actual neurological standards are for fighters when guys like toney, holyfield, and hearns who clearly suffer from impaired speech and motor sklills can pass them with flying colors....
i know it isnt going to happen but each guys tests from the past should be closely compared with their current ones and they should be measuring the "level of deterioration" that is occuring in their individual cases and not whether or not they meet some blanket standard (that must be pretty low) -
Toney shouldn't be allowed to fight anymore and neither should holyfield. Neither of those two will ever be a threat to the heavyweight division ever again.Comment

Somehow this guy can still be Heavyweight champ, well he was heavyweight champ till they screwed him for having non-performance enhancing drugs in him after he beat ruiz fair and square.38-year old heavyweight contender James Toney – is putting his "Lights Out" stamp on any talk that his hall of fame career is over after two straight losses preceded by a draw. But i wonder how much of the Peter loss was down to his conditioning, he seems to loose a lot of weight awful quick, and was very muscular.
Toney> Ibragimov,Briggs,Valuev,Peter in a rematch and anyone in the heavyweights other than Wladimir (who is just too big)Comment

Couldn't beat Rahman, couldn't beat Peter in either fight, how's he going to do it in a rematch now he's a year older?Toney> Ibragimov,Briggs,Valuev,Peter in a rematch and anyone in the heavyweights other than Wladimir (who is just too big)Comment

Wrong, Rahman got robbed in their fight but Toney did get robbed against Peter in the first fight. Peter dominated Toney in the second fight thouroughly.Comment

yeah why i used the word 'apparently', i wont take your word for it, ill have to try and watch the fight at some point.Comment

Toney couldn't hurt Rahman and both fighters were too lazy to make it decisive. It was a very tedious fight. You could do yourself a favour by not watching it. Like in Toney-Peter 1, Toney couldn't hurt Peter and Peter was too lazy to make it decisive. Second fight one of them learned from the first fight and made it one-sided. I don't think Toney has anything left to offer boxing.Comment
