Joe Mesi wins via KO over Ron Johnson

In his sixth comeback fight, Joe Mesi continues his winning streak by defeating tomato-can 21-21 Ron Johnson by first round KO. Mesi 35-0 seems to be 'idling' in his pursuit to win a hw title by fighting such a low level of competition. I like Mesi and think his style makes for exciting fights but if he doesn't start stepping up his level of competition soon, then he's not going to help his situation nevermind get a title shot.

IMO, if Mesi can't get the fights he wants in the U.S. then he should travel over to Germany and face some of the up-and-coming European prospects to help his situation and rating.

He does. He is training out the smae gym that Oscar is training in nwo for the Floyd fight.

I think that he should leave the US.

I interviewed him recently and asked him that exact question. He told me that he makes more money in the US and that is where he wants to stay for now.

He did not rule out going overseas in the future if he is not reinstated in NY soon.

I don't understand why there isn't that much interest in Joe Mesi these days... I think that he's the "dark horse" of the division and that we haven't seen the best of him yet. Hopefully he gets a big fight soon and can prove himself....

I like mesi,,,,hes a good guy and makes for good fights but Ive never been high on him. he just doesnt have the stamina or chin to compete with the big punchers of the division. hell,,,light hitters monte barret and jirov almost had him out. I;d still like to see him fight these top guys but I dont expect him to win a title

Realistically, I don't think that Mesi is anywhere near a title shot nevermind winning one. He literally seems to be taking "baby" steps (pun intended) in his quest to win a title. I've seen a couple of his 'comeback' fights and he looked reasonably sharp against his "C" class opponents but other than that, I can't really gauge how he would do against an A or B class fighter like Rahman, Krasniqi, or even Brian Minto.

However, I'm not as fast to write him off as others are on this forum..I think that he has alot going for him in that he's undefeated, has decent punching power, and seems to have alot of heart and determination.

Hopefully Beez, we'll find out all the answers to these questions when he decides he wants to step up and fight some good opponents. And hopefully this will be real soon.

yea,,,,I have no problem at all with his offense. he has pretty good pop and puts them together well,,,,its his defense and chin that really seems vulnerable to a good puncher. hopefully he'll continue to get back to where he was before the injury. seems like he's getting there slowly. I would like to see him against a dom quinn type guy and then if he gets past that,,,throw him in with a rahman. I think thats a very good fight.
