    quick question?????

does anyone here watch college boxing???

i was just watch some and i was wondering does anyone get into this side of the sport?

also do any of the fighters come out of college and become well known professionals? if so who?

another thing, i wasn't too keen on their rules, when i fighter gets hit with a flsuh shot hurt or not it's an automatic standing 8 count as well if a fighter gets flurried on it's a standing 8 count or the ref stops the fight, kind of like the Calzaghe-Manfredo fight, extremely early stoppages, even with bigger gloves and head gear.

other than that it was good to see hungry fighters giving it their all without the alure and problems of money being the motivator for fighting.

i'd like to know what you all think about it and if you follow or have any info, etc, about college boxing?????

I live here in Colorado and I think the Air Force Academy has a team. I wathced them on my local Fox Sports network. I think college boxing would be great, but those rules kind of suck. With boxing at the college level that could provide some more interest in the sport.

yeah thats what i was thinking, kind of a farm league. but how discouraging is it to have the fight stopped because you got caught with a lucky punch and you weren't hurt, that has to take a lot of wind out of your boxing sails i bet.

UNLV had/has a boxing team, at least the last time i checked, they got some exposure here by the news but i haven't seen anything in a long while. not even on campus. hhhmmmm?

but a college boxing tourney would be great or even at the high school level i think would be good too.

Most colleges don't even allow boxing since it's a contact sport and all that ****(bla bla bla you know) I was at Columbia University like a year ago, just watching with a friend, and they had pretty good training and decent fighters. It's not a bad idea but I can't imagine a lot of people that go to college and take boxing seriously... Boxing takes away a lot of time when it's taken seriously...

yeah, same with other sports, but they are team sports. plus boxing doesn't have the same kind of draw as college football or basketball. sad to say.

It sucks cause a lot of football players in college and proffessional have a lot of boxing potential, they make more money out of football so they just stay there, in their comfort zone...

Yeah it sucks because the next Heavweight Champion for the U.S. is probably playing linebacker or defensive end in the NFL. If boxing could just find a way to market the sport better their could be a few kids that would choose boxing over the major sports.

yeah for sure, that and basketball, i mean they can even skip college and become a pro basketball player, i find something wrong about that.

one being a professional with basically minimal experience and two giving a kid a great deal of money like that, more times then most they don't know how to deal with it and it causes tons of problems, even guys that come right out of college, they get fast money and don't know how to act responsible. look at Pacman Jones or Shawn Kemp, amonst others like Artest. in kemps case i don't think weed should be considered a crime, but he had other infractions on top of that, but still.
