Arum Stakes Claim to Pacquiao Gold

By TK Stewart - If you ever wondered why the bidding has been so fierce over the promotional rights to the little Filipino dragon named Manny Pacquiao just have a look at his box-office numbers. Plain and simple, having the pleasure to promote the "Pac Man" is like having a license to print money.

So, as Pacquiao prepares for his latest shootout against unbeaten Mexican Jorge Solis on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, his promoter of the day, Bob Arum, is grinning like a Cheshire cat. If you ever wondered why the bidding has been so fierce over the promotional rights to the little Filipino dragon named Manny Pacquiao just have a look at his box-office numbers. Plain and simple, having the pleasure to promote the "Pac Man" is like having a license to print money. [details]

I still wish Manny would have signed with Golden Boy. There are many good fights he could have had if he signed with them. Instead were left with Pacquiao/Solis. Who knows it may be a good fight, but with Golden Boy he would be fighting the big names in the division.

For sure. It's the same when fighters are signed to Showtime, they can't fight HBO fighters. Kostya Tsyzu had that problem. I know it's a bit of topic. Manny might have to keep knocking over no names for a while.

i also now understand why arum made soto (who is under arum's stable) a mandatory for marquez instead of pacquiao. an upset by soto would be a disaster for both marquez and dela hoya since it would appear that a pacquiao-soto bout would be the most logical match. both are under arum.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pacquiao/Soto because I believe Soto is underrated. I saw him fight in his last fight on Versus and he looked great. Great punching power with sharp and accurate punches. I would though rather see Pac/JMM. Would be a very interesting rematch. Pac has improved since then and JMM knows what he has to do. It's just a fight that needs to be settled.
