Well, if you hurt your hand in a three round fight like he just had than I'm going to go as far as to say Calzaghe will almost always injure his hand in every fight. Nature of boxing is you hit things with your fist. Now, just like Mayweather and his brittle hands, we'll have to hold our breathe every fight to see if he stops punching with one hand and how that effects him.Comment

Think about if Calzaghe had fought Andrade instead of Manfredo. Wow, then Calzaghe would have broken all the bones in both his fragile hands ****ing on Andrades granite head. I think Calzaghe better take some softer opponents in the futureComment

calzaghe breaks his hand every fight cos he does'nt punch correctly, he slaps the hook almost with his palm and during that last burst of punches/slaps in the third i saw him hit the top of manfredo's head like he was knocking a nail in!
he tries to throw a million punches a round instead of planting his feet and throwing harder shots with the knuckle part of the glove.Comment

it is long enough...a metacarpel can heal in 4-6 weeks...its one of the small thin bones in the hand...its not like he's broken his wrist.
The reason Calzaghe had to punch downward was because Manfredo was ducking down like a little ***** and wouldn`t come out of his guard....
Manfredo chokes again! all this talk about his heart was a lod of BS, the man hardly threw a punch and looked like a deer in the headlights.Last edited by me2007; 04-11-2007, 04:32 AM.Comment

Did you not see the fight? Manfredo didnt go down either. However what he did do is find that he couldnt throw a single punch because of the fact that Calzaghe was peppering him with such frequency that all he could do was sit on the ropes with his hands over his head and hope that it stops. If Calzaghe had done that to Andrade, he would've been stopped too. Calzaghe was barely even getting started. Had Manfredo laid there for 12 rounds, Calzaghe would've punched him with increasing force for all of those 12 rounds. Thats what he does.
Calzaghe has soft hands, its that simple. He generally spends the first couple of rounds sizing up his opponents. Then he picks the tempo up and see what comes back at him, then if there isnt much coming back at him, he starts increasing the force. He didnt have to get to that stage with Manfredo. The only time he threw anything that looked like a slap was when Manfredo was virtually bent over on the carpet with only the back of his head a spot to aim for. Some of Calzaghe's shots to the ribs were anything but slaps, they were solid throws without Calzaghe even throwing at full force yet. All it takes to crack a bone in the hand is the hand hitting the head at a bad angle. It was probably the 'slaps' due to Manfredo doubling over that broke Calzaghe's hand.calzaghe breaks his hand every fight cos he does'nt punch correctly, he slaps the hook almost with his palm and during that last burst of punches/slaps in the third i saw him hit the top of manfredo's head like he was knocking a nail in!

It made me chuckle in the after-fight interview when Manfredo said that Calzaghe hit fast but not hard. The ref stopping the fight as early as he did (admittedly due to Manfredo's inactivity) probably hurt Calzaghe more than Manfredo, he didnt even get chance to start unloading on him. If he had done, Manfredo would've been knocked clean out, most likely having already been down a couple of times somewhere around the 6 round mark.
Calzaghe was just getting started.Comment
