Willie Limond lined up as Khan's next opponent

Scot Willie Limond is being lined up as the next opponent for Amir Khan, who stretched his perfect pro record to 12 straight wins with a third-round stoppage of Steffy Bull in Cardiff.

Promoter Frank Warren has promised 20-year-old Khan a title fight in July and commonwealth Limond fits the bill.

But the Olympic silver medalist admits he'd rather take on British lightweight champion John Thaxton, super-featherweight Kevin Mitchell or the unbeaten John Murray.

He said "There are a few guys I'd love to fight just to shut them up.
"Kevin Mitchell has been calling me out, although he's been quite recently.
"There are others coming out of the woodwork like John Murray. I spared with him, played around with him and he's not on my level.
" I'd like to fight John Thaxton for the British title. He's a positive fighter but they're all scared."

Khan needed just one minute and 45 seconds of the third round to stop the unadventurous Bull on his live Us Tv debut.

Meanwhile, WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli stopped Bobby Gunn in the first round of his second title defence. A clash with WBC and WBA king Jean Marc Mormeck or IBf title holder Krzysztof wlodarczyk could be next for the Welshmen.

Warren needs to listen to Khan and get him in the ring with the people Amir wants to be in there with. Not this Willie Limond guy. All right his record is good at 28-1, but yet again Warren picks a guy with little KO power(8 KO's). I like Amir and think he is very talented and I know some people don't like him because of all the hype he gets and his talentless opponents, but he is very good. I just hope that Warren doesn't protect him like he does Calzaghe and were all talking about he fights nobodies and he should come to the US. Khan could be a boxer that is popular worldwide, not just in England. With Warren that probably won't happen.

Why do the Western Europeans eat this stuff up? The Eastern Euros seem to seek out the best opposition they can find (except Valuev anyway), but not they westerners. They just build their records up big and retire. I don't get it.

Willie Limond aint a bad boxer at all but again its another opponent for Khan who doesn't hit hard at all. I would prefer to see him fight someone who might have a poor record but who actually has a ko rastio above 50% to see how Khan deals with power. Oh an that western European comment, not to much of a generalisation there.

i heard thaxton was looking for a british-commonwealth unification fight with limmond as well.

if khan-limmond does come off in the summer i'll be happy with khan's progress unless (as i suspect might happen) warren makes him spend the next year defending the commonwealth belt against random journeymen. limmond followed by thaxton would be ideal and by winning both he could justify himself as the best british lightweight.

i think i'd prefer khan to go down the commonwealth / british route rather than go for murray's wbc youth title. although i'd like to see him fight murray at some point, right now khan will learn more fighting experienced pro's.

The kid's had 12 ****ing fights.

Look at the American prospects, Andre Berto, Vanes Martirosyan.. Khan's opposition as of late is alot better than both of theirs.. give the kid a break, if you rush him his talent will go to waste, I'm not saying he waits until 30 fights before getting a title shot, but taking it step by step is the way it's done.. you can HARDLY argue that Willie Limond is a step down from Khan's recent opposition.

              Get real.
