Good Ref, Bad Ref

i dont how many others were able to watch both the calzaghe and corrales fights this past saturday..... i was lucky enough to be one person with friends with all the good cable channels..

I just thought in light of all the horsehit criticism surrounding the premature stoppage i would take time out to give credit to a referee who did a great job saturday night.... we spend so much time focusing on the negative around here i hardly find it surprising that this has gone overlooked...

mike england, who is fairly young and previously unknown to me was the 3rd man in the ring when corrales and clottey met for their welterweight showdown... he did an absolutely outstanding job with this fight, in fact i would go so far as to say it was a flawless performance considering nobody has said anything about him... he kept a very keen eye on the fight from start to finish, he was always in position but never too close.. when corrales was under fduress he was right there on top of it with his best interests in mind... and most impressively he knew his fighter and his heart and allowed corrales to end this fight (maybe career) on his feet... he allowed corrales to finish with dignity without crossing the line of endangering chico and i believe it should be properly appreciated..

so there it is... Great job Mike England, hope to see you again in a big fight sometime soon!

I agree. He did an great job officiating that fight. Id love to see more refs like that in the sport. He was totaly unbiased, and looked like he really cared about both fighters.

I will never become a ref fan because all the good refs can still be bought, Nady is good ref and he's been bought a few times!

it is almost laughable how ass backwards boxing can be...

the ref who as suspended for telling marquex he was ahead on the scorecards was back refereeing another fight before his suspension was up because "the sanctioning bodies appointed him" so apparently a suspension of any kind ultimately means jack **** so far as officials go... i believe it was cora jr. vs godfrey he ref'd so you guys dont think im bull****ting..

then you look at other sports, the NBA for example, they go through hours upon hours of tape critiqing their officials and weeding out the ones who dont cut it before they negatively affect an outcome.... because it truly does undermine the credibility and ultimately the marketability of the sport if their is any hint of criminal behavior.
