yeah they seem to change them quite a lot. don't know how they come up with them. How can Harry Wills and Floyd patterson be higher than Lewis, Tyson and Foreman?

One thing that winds me up about box rec is all of a sudden a fighter who hasnt fought or have any fighters around him but he will jump up 4 places in their ratings . Chris Byrd is and example that springs to mind. I mean what the hell is that about

Sometimes BoxRec ratings don't make sense. They have Evander Holyfield, who lost to Moorer, Ruiz, Toney, Bowe, Lewis and others, as #5 of all time, ahead of Lennox Lewis. Holyfield should not be in the top ten.

I like the way they recognize Gene Tunney as #3, however. Joe Louis, Gene Tunney and Rocky Marciano should all be ranked ahead of Muhammed Ali, if they rank them by computer. Ali lost twice in his prime, ages 29 and 31, Louis won every fight between age 23 and 35. The excuse of Ali being inactive for awhile doesn't hold any water, because Joe Louis was also inactive for some time as he went overseas to fight in WW 2, but he still won all his fights for a few years afterwards, until age caught up with him.

            1. Joe Louis
            2. Rocky Marciano
            3. Gene Tunney
            4. Muhammed Ali

I wouldn't put alot of credence in boxrec's ranking system, it's based an statistical formulas that could rank Tony Tubbs as the top hw if certain variables are present.

Having said that, Boxrec is a great database for looking up fighter's records and scheduled up coming fights.

you cannot define prime by age. Ali's prime was in the mid to late 60's but he was banned during his best years. When he came back he clearly was not as good as he was earlier.

                    Boxing is so subjective.
Point systems when establishing rank just doesnt work.
