I didnt see the fight tonight but it sounds like it went pretty much how I thought it would.
I still think Chico can be a very good and almost a elite fighter. No Im not some die hard Chico fans so Im not just talking from my heart. I think he screwed up bad by staying down in weight so long. He was at 130 for far too long and he was at 135 for too long. Still, I thought he couldve made it out of 135 in good enough time if he had moved up right after he beat Castillo. It was ****** of him not to move up. Castillo wanted the rematch at 140 and Chico shouldve took it. Sure it wouldve helped Castillo but it wouldve also helped Chico and Castillo has never looked good at 140. Chico shouldve moved up to 140 probally a year or more before that but it still wouldve been solid then.
Instead he stayed there, rematched a big Castill & got KO'd, then fought Casamayor again when he had no business being there and was too big his ownself. Now like a idiot he had to move straight to 147 instead of the natural progression. I hate the fact that Floyd is moving up so quickly but its even worst to stay down and kill your body. It will take years off your life. He shouldve been at 140 for the last year and a half or more. Then he couldve moved up naturally to 147 now. Still, I thought he was much better and had much more fight in him then people gave him credit for. He got KO in the 2nd fight to Castillo but Castillo was huge and Chico was killing himself with the weight. Then against Casamayor he looked more flat to me because of his weight then he did look done. I know shot fighters when I see them. Vargas is shot. Chico was just drained.
So he moves straight to 147 because he has to and his sorry ass managment puts him in with Clottey in his 1st fight. What kind of **** is that to do to a Warrior that would give his life to the sport? His managment aint ****. I think Chico could certainly carry his power up in weight and could compete at a high level but he should be eased into it. You dont feed him to Clottey in his 1st fight. Thats bull ****. It sounds like he still looked solid but Clottey was just too much for him. I completely disagree with people who say that Chico's power didnt carry and he should retire without his power. How do you guys know his power didnt carry? Just because he didnt hurt Clottey? I bet you cant even find a ****ing Middleweight that can hurt Clottey. I bet Chico can still hurt a ton of guys. Ive always said that if you gave him one tuneup then I would pick him over Cotto. Im worried that Clottey may have finally beat it out of him but I still think he has some left. 1st he needs a easy win to get his mind back right and then I would put him in with Cotto all day and I say he knocks him out.
People rip Chico's chin but I have always thought that was unjust. Besides that KO fight against Castillo, Ive never seen power hurt him and even that was shady. What hurt's Chico is speed. His knock downs all come from speed. He's long & off balance, so speed shots kill him. Again tonight it sounds like it was Clottey's flurries that killed him. If your just a straight up power guy then you wont drop Chico or Knock him out. Its the speed that knocks him down
