Several fightfans, media people, and even fighters have expressed their opinion on the growing popularity in MMA and the persistent deficiencies of boxing. An important factor in the rise of MMA is the energy and vibrancy of the UFC. UFC's innovative approaches to hype up their sport forces the leaders of the boxing community to tuck their tails between their legs and hide until their next expensive pay-per-view boxing event. It's not even the bloody art of combat in the octagon that's belittling the sweetscience. It's the people of boxing itself. After the Calzaghe and Manfredo fight, Larry Merchant made a statement about certain boxing matchups getting old. Jim Lampley looked at Merchant as if he was the one that's old. What boxing needs is a fresh look outside of the ring. The judges used in boxing are usually 60 or older with bad vision. The unfair judging has been off the charts. The commentating of HBO is "getting old". Larry Merchant was consistently putting down the "Contender" series. The Contender was good for boxing. Even Showtime and ESPN commentators lose the attention span of the audience. The solution is obvious-out with the old and in with the new. Boxing's HBO, Showtime, and ESPN should take a page from the UFC. Find an attractive and smart female host like UFC's Rachelle Leah for your fight coverages and inside scoops just to mix up the chemistry. Showtime is trying that but not HBO. Don't change the sport or the fighters. Just fix the staff. Let Jim Lampley do the pre and post-fight interviews. For the aweful judging, try borrowing younger people from the UFC, NBA, or NFL whether they are fighters or not. They should know something about boxing. It would be hard for me to see Joe Rogan, Ben Wallace, and Ray Lewis screw up the scorecard. Boxing needs something different. Throw some good music in there and pretty girls. Nobody likes a sausage fest. The bottom line for boxing is-Be Cool!

except for the pretty girls thing. sure it would be nice, but it wouldnt help the sport i dont think -
You are right to a degree. The NFL gets a lot of respect because it is one of the few sacred sports that belong to men and men only. I'm basically throwing ideas out there cuz my dogs don't care what I have to say. Corales fight coming up and it's free...yea buddy!!!Comment
