A piece of what I think of King from my new column:
boo-hoo, HBO won’t let him ramble on for ten to fifteen minutes after his cards. Guess what, no other Promoters are interviewed post-fight either. Don King is seen by many fans as a negative for Boxing and a reason to change the channel. He is a BIG part of Boxing’s credibility gap, making himself the public face, before his fighters, to satisfy his need for public attention. Evander Holyfield-Lennox Lewis I, Jee Fenech-Azumah Nelson I, J.C. Chavez-Pernell Whitaker…all of these fights were promoted by Don. This left such a sour public taste that the fan base is smaller than ever. Don, whether he likes it or not, whether it smacks of racism at times or not, is symbolic to mainstream sports fans of the corruption of Boxing.
