The Closest boxer to be the next ray robinson?

We have never seen Ray Robinson in his prime. There just wasn't the A/V available to chronicle him as a lightweight and welterweight when he was undefeated, and by newspaper accounts, unbeatable. The man had like 1 loss in 100 something fights against great opposition.
The Robinson I admire is the one that was old and tired, punchy even. He started his career at lightweight, and then was knocking out Gene Fullmer and Jake Lamotta at middleweight when he was old and slowed down precipitously. Excuse me if Mr. Jones wasn't Ray Robinson in that respect.Comment

lol yeah robertson was incredible his timing and technique was a100 %... I think it was his rematch aginst fullmer that hook he landed perfect ...correct me if i'm wrong ... but yeah and that was when he was getting on in his carreer and the fact that when he lost he made sure he returned and made it up too his fans he was a true championComment

Absolutley NO ONE.. NO one is even close to him. He fought everyone, he fought more champions than any other fighter in history.. I'm not the greatest historian, but damm That man was great.. Even the person we call the greatest of all time "Muhammed Ali" said Sugar Ray Robinson is the Greatest fighter to ever lace the gloves. G.O.A.T = Sugar Ray RobinsonComment

Yep. And lets not forget that he was taking a step back and knocked out Gene with one punch; excellent work!
Robinson also had killer instinct and intelligence against his opponents. He drank a glass of beef blood in front of Lamotta to get into his head.Comment

The closest thing to SSR was Ali. He was Ali's idol and also Ali tried to fight the same way as SSR. SSR fought over 200 fights. I mean nobody now a days will fight that many times except maybe Peter Buckley, but SSR won over 100 fights and had 108 KO's. None of the big time boxers today will have even 108 fights maybe half that.
In his first loss to Jake Lamotta he fought two weeks later in a 10 rd MD. Then fought Lamotta again within a month and beat him. That kind of stuff won't happen again.Comment

No one. I dont think there ever will be another Ray Robinson, EVER. I mean, taking into account the competition and how often he fought and remained undefeated and at all the weight classes...No one will duplicate what he did. Guys nowadays may be in better physical shape, and yet they wouldnt be able to carry his jockstrap.Comment
