Shall We Embrace The Chase of Valuev?

By Jake Donovan - Records are made to be broken, but don't tell that to purists who refuse to lend credence to "out with the old."
There are plenty of records in boxing which many consider unbreakable, and some even regard them as off-limits to discussion. Among those, we have: Joe Louis' 25 consecutive successful title defenses and eleven years as world heavyweight champion; Henry Armstrong simultaneously reigning as world champion in three separate weight classes; Julio Cesar Chavez remaining unbeaten through 90 fights before his first career loss. Well, first Wlad would have to agree to the fight.

Because as it stands, I agree with him. He's not doing Valuev any favors by fighting him, because he's not on his level and he'd just mark his record.

          Wlad is just too courteous.

I dont really care to be honest. I like Valuev as a person and dont mind the fact that he's fought a lot of nobodies. As far as I'm concerned, if he beats one legitimate top contender (say one of the Klit's or Peter), then he has fought a greater top fighter than Marciano ever fought (thats not to say that his record is as good, even HOF old-timers are still HOFers).

If he breaks the record, good for him. Its not Valuev's fault that the heavyweight division is such a mockery at the moment.

Its only a matter of time before Valuev gets beaten by someone that could actually boxe.

But in order for that to happen, he needs to actually fight people who can box. Which is what we all want anyway. So he should be given some credit for that, when it happens and more credit if they dont beat him.
