Contender Jonathon Reid Protests UK Loss to Paul Smith

Here's an open letter from Matt Yanofsky, protesting the controversial stoppage loss of his fighter Jonathon Reid.
    ----------------

    To whom it may concern,

My name is Matt Yanofsky; I am the manager of Jonathan Reid. On Friday March 30, Jonathan fought Paul Smith at the Metro Radio Arena in New Castle , England . In the 7th round of the contest, Reid was knocked down by a left hand from Smith. Reid rose from the knockdown, and referee Victor Loughlin let him continue in the contest. Seconds later, Smith wrestled Reid to the ground and Loughlin properly ruled it no knockdown. Reid quickly and alertly got back on his feet to continue the contest. As Reid stood up, Loughlin improperly decided to stop the contest for no reason what so ever. This ludicrous decision left everyone in attendance {mostly Paul Smith fans} and even the British announcers shocked and questioning the referee’s choice.

I am informing the British Boxing Board and promoter Mr. Frank Warren to expect a protest from team Reid in the near future for this unjust and corrupt stoppage.

    Sincerely,

    Matt Yanofsky

    Sincerely,

This is not something he wants to publish in a British paper, as it's defamatory. We've got very harsh laws about this over here.

Be interesting to watch the fight, see what happened.

I make a habit of learning how to spell the places I've been to.

      Where is New Castle?

He's a manager fighting for his fighter. Frank Warren himself said on his website that he was puzzled by the stoppage.

No, no...I'm not saying the stoppage was right. We've got ****ing draconian libel laws over here - our freedom of speech is surprisingly curtailed. It wouldnt wash in the States. I was saying that if he calls officials corrupt, then they can sue him if they can prove he was talking about them.

The stoppage itself? Sounds like bull****.

Oh yeah, I've mentioned this libel stuff many times. You can't write slander and expect not to be sued. Maybe the US if different, I'm not sure.

Yeah it is in America. In America you can write what you want. The right system is probably somewhere in the middle!

Our laws are so bad that people from abroad sue other people from abroad in our courts because a copy of that magazine/book was published over here!!! It's crazy. It's why you can't get the Showtime pages outside of the States - they dont wanna get sued.
