Is the Vitali Klitschko-Oleg Maskaev fight in jeopardy?

Boxingexclusive.com is reporting that Oleg Maskaev will not be fighting Vitali after all, he will fight Samuel Peter instead. Last Friday, on ESPN insider, Dan Rafael said the same.

Anybody know any more about this?

Hopefully this is true.....Its fair and the way it should be.Vitali should have a tune up fight anyway and face the winner.

This is odd. Wasn't there a recent press release detailing the money and terms Peter agreed to in order to step aside?

Yeah he needs a tuneup fight. He has been out of the game for awhile and Peter should get the shot. Anyways I would like to see a Peter/Vitali matchup a lot more.

peter deserves the shot in that the toney fights were declared eliminators but I cant help feeling a bit bad for vitali if this is true. he was declared champion emeritus and unlike peter he's now pushing 36 and has injuries. Im not totally convinced he'll be able to beat peter after being out so long. his timing will be off as will his balance. 3 yrs ago I think he'd beat peter convincingly but now Im not so sure. either way,,,one guy gets screwed here and its either peter or vitali. from what Im reading here it appears its vitali that gets the screw job. got to love the wbc huh

This sounds like bogus news to me... Why would Vitali step aside, after spending months of intense business and legal negotiating to get the shot in the first place? Run this thread up the bs flagpole beetch!

I rather see oleg vs vitali. Not samuel peters, he seems like a dumb ass. He lost in the first toney fight, and in the rematch he killed toney. Yet, they give the first fight to peter? I don't know peter seems like a joke, he was all like!!! In his rematch with toney, he said it was his first time jogging on the beach and stuff. It makes me think that peters hasn't trained very athletically for most of his fights and realizing that he got a gift decision in the first fight against toney. He trained harder to make sure he wouldn't look like he lost, like he did in the first fight.

It is hard to believe, and it may just be bs, but they're taking it seriously in the discussion forum over at ESB.

I still think its b.s. but I shouldn't be surprised because Vitali's know for this kind of bad news....
