Calzaghe Sets 2-Year Deadline For Retirement

On April 7, undefeated WBO super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe collides with Peter Manfredo, Jr. at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. He makes the 20th defense of his title, and if he wins - he would match the defense record of rival Bernard Hopkins. [details]

2 years should = time for 3 or 4 mega fights......If he does not lose in his next fight or 2.

Please for the love of god let one of those fights be with Kessler. If Joe is gonna retire in the next two years, i hope its against the best of the best.

Warren has been quoted as saying Kessler is next if Joe beats Manfredo. That would be the most intriguing super-middleweight clash since Jones-Toney.

As for Joe fighting Hopkins? It won't happen. Hopkins has had many chances to fight Joe and never wanted to (same with Jones). If Joe defeats Kessler and is undisputed SMW, then that MIGHT entice Hopkins, but highly doubtful. I'd forget any talk about Calzaghe-Hopkins the instant you hear or read it.

Taylor? Much more likely. Taylor is a throwback champion, who I truly believe would fight anybody. I mean, Hopkins twice and then Winky? He obviously isn't interested in cherry-picking or dodging tough fights. Undisputed MW v. Undisputed SMW? Both undefeated! That would be legendary, and of course probably too good to actually happen. Hehe. But then again, it could be Taylor-Kessler with that same tagline! HBO is going to want Taylor fight the winner if Kessler-Calzaghe happens.

Do you mean actual MEGA fights or "MEGA" fights?

I dont think that there are 4 possible MEGA fights in the next 2 years to be honest.

I can realistically see him fighting Kessler (Super-fight).

One out of Hopkins, Taylor or Hopkins (MEGA-fight).

Then finishing out with either Froch, Dawson or Woods (two very big domestic fights that MAY be Super-fights by then).

I really, really hope that Kessler is next. It's a fight that has to happen, and if Joe wins it certainly puts his resume up there. It means his career's not been a gigantic waste of time! lol

Then if he fights Hopkins, Taylor or Wright and beats them too - well, then I think you gotta put him up very high on the p4p lists and as one of if not the greatest limey of all time.

But this is all a dream at the minute. He NEEDS these fights.
