    why no unification bouts

hey fellas, my first post here, but in no way does it mean that im not a huge fan. ive followed the sport for yrs, not as much lately, i train and fight in mma so my loyalty is leaning that way a little(sorry) anyways like i said in my title, is there so many damn champions, there needs to be a push for unification bouts!! anyone know why there isnt?? it would seem to me that if there was one champ in each divison, it would make boxing a little more credable in the eyes of many.. just my 2 cents any opinions

        Good Question

That puzzles me as well. In the long run, everyone would benefit from unification fights, because boxing would become more exciting and therefore more popular, and so make more money. The sport is losing a lot of money because of the way things are now. People are turned off from boxing because there's never a single true champion.

There should be one MAIN title for each weight class like there was before my time, back when boxing was the most popular sport.

I think a lot of it has to do with promoters and money. Most of the champs have different promoters and you know how they are, its all about the money.

More belts=More money for promoters and sactioning bodies. You have hit the nail on the head though, I feel this is the number one reason for the decline of boxing in the mainstream. Whenever you try to explain the belt situation to a person that's not a fan, well you get some strange looks.

I don't blame the fighters, take Wlad for instance, every time he tries to make a unification bout, mandatories pop up, or Don King tries to force him to sign future options for fights. Unfortunatley the only way I can see this getting resolved is if HBO and Showtime, only recognize the Ring Champion (as ESPN has done). However, ratings are higher for a "title" fight, so I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Certain promoters & sanctioning bodies want nothing to do with any kind of unification process,no matter what they say.
