    Fighters who TALK SMACK

How do you feel about a fighter who pops alot of ****?..

Are we just a different generation, or is there a different standard when we choose to accept a mouthy fighter based on who's doing the talking?

Ali seemed appreciated for it very early in his career.

We have all seen footage of him screaming "I'm the King of the World!" while standing right next to guys like Ray Robinson and Joe Louis.
He was a kid at the time..

That seems offensive to me even knowing Ali's story and how it ended.. He laid claim, eventually.

Still, Ali was loved for it at the time.

(please, not so much with the answers telling me it was "how he did it..")

People seem to hate Mayweather for talk..

Talk in general seems to upset people.

I just wish I had seen more of that.

      Mayorga needs a sitcom.

To me it depends who is talking it somewhat.......but for the most part I find it intriging and makes the fights more interesting especially if you are trying to get a friend who does not care much for boxing to watch with you.

I think that a little drama at the press conference is noble. It's like giving a fight before a fight.

****-talkers have the most heart for that.

well ali was a 9-1 underdog, completely written off, and every single guy on press row predicted liston to knock him out... that was just a giant theatrical "i told you so" and im pretty sure id have done something similar myself

i think a lot of people felt so dumb for writing him off as a loudmouth that they were willing to roll with it from there on out. ali fought everyone, anywhere, anytime...he brought a lot more good than bad... he was a worldwise celebrity

whereas floyd... has he ever been an underdog?? people dont want to hear a guy talk **** when everyone knows hes fighting below his level and gonna whoop his opponents ass...

plus whether you like it or not ali's style of brashness was rather original.. whereas floyd is just another in a long line of arrogant fighters who spout the same old garbage weve all heard a thousand times...

to me ali outside the ring was an alter ego to the fighter, he was pretending, it was theatre... his tone was comical.... mayweathers tone of trash talk usually borders on contemptuous and his delivery is very sarcastic... probably reminds a lot of people of "that one *******" that they know

You isolated that moment well.. But the point for me is; Ali was a massive talker, period.
