Mayweathers defence VS Winky's

Winky's defense is not real defense, many of those punhces ****s his face up. Taylor missed up his face, I don't consider that great defense. All Winky does is cover his face with his oversize gloves, big deal!
No contest, PBF easily the better defense! -
well if u know winky wright, u know that was an unusually offensive fight for him, so was his quartey fight.
But Mayweather, as great a defense as he has, will fade away along with his reflexes. AND he does all these manuvers from a distance.
Winky is the only fight i know that can stand in front of a guy like JERMAIN TAYLOR, let taylor throw 5 or 6 consecutive punches, AND NOT GET HIT.
No defense??? what are u talkin about?
Any idea how much heart it takes to hold ur arms up after taking even one power shot?
And, its not JUST the arms, he moves his head behind them, and he's so skilled he sometimes catches a punch on his glove and moves the punch in a different direction.
not saying Winky has the better defense, but its almost rediculous to say he doesnt have one of the best defenses in the sportComment

To me Floyd has by far the better D because he is far more versatile. Everyone knows what Winky's D is and he does it every fight, all fight long. Floyd on the other hand, can switch his D any time he wants, and changes it depending on his opponent. Floyd can even do Winky's D any time he wants and he argubaly does it better then Winky.
Against Zab he struggled early, switched to Winky's D, and dominated the rest of the fight.
One fight he will come out with the shoulder roll & the right glove by his face, next time he'll run the crab defense with his arms crossed in front of him, next time he'll keep his guard up in front of his face like Winky, and etc....
Also, Winky just tries to block with his arms while Floyd can do that, he can slip a punch, or he can roll the punchComment

Winky definatly has probally the 2nd best D in the sport. What do you mean that Floyd's D will fade with his reflexes? I definatly disagree. Floyd is not Roy Jones. Floyd is probally the most fundementally sound fighter out there and his D isnt just about slipping or reflexes. He can roll punches and block them so why do you think he will fade when his reflexes go?well if u know winky wright, u know that was an unusually offensive fight for him, so was his quartey fight.

Mayweather, and easily.
Like DLT said, Floyd has a much more versatile defense.
He can do absolutely everything.
He can shoulder roll punches.
He can block punches with a high gaurd.
He can slip punches.
And he can use his phenomenal footwork and reflexes to step back from punches.
You name it, he can do it.
To say Mayweather just relies on his reflexes, is truly an injustice to how skilled and versatile he really is.
Mayweather has used tons of different fighting styles, and has used each one very effectively.
But the most determining and deciding factor for my decision: Mayweather gets hit A LOT less than Winky does.

Wright does a lot of subtle things that make his defense excellent. Mayweathers defense is unbelievable too.
I don't agree with people saying, "Floyd could defend in Wright's style as well or better than Wright"...I think that's simply not true. I don't think Floyd could have stood in front of JLC in their two fights with his arms up just ****ing out a win like Wright did Mosley & Taylor (even though the Taylor fight was technically a draw).
Floyd showed he was capable of defending like that for a shade against Judah, but I don't know if he could do it for 12 rounds. Just walking down some of the opponents he has fought....
Outside of that, I think Mayweather will always have good defense. He does a lot of things correctly in a technical sense which will keep him from getting hit a ton when his reflexes go. Somewhat like a James Toney situation...less like a Roy Jones situation.Comment

I agree. And the fact that Mayweather has so many more options, doesn't that count for anything?Wright does a lot of subtle things that make his defense excellent. Mayweathers defense is unbelievable too.

Also, are you seriously comparing a prime JLC inside fighting skills to Taylor or Mosely? If Castillo was in his prime and bigger than Wright (as he was to Mayweather), I don't think Wright could stand in front of JLC with a high gaurd and **** away with him either, to be honest.Comment

I was really commenting on the rest of Mayweather defensive skills when compared to Wright. Floyd can defend with his legs and he can defend standing in front of you. His defense is the most well rounded in the sport today.I agree. And the fact that Mayweather has so many more options, doesn't that count for anything?

As far as Wright being able to throw with some fantasy version of Castillo...uh...who knows? Stevie Johnston was a small man and he was able to stand with Castillo and throw leather quite successfully in areas of their fight. Wright standing in front of Taylor like that was impressive regardless of inside fighting ability. That fight wasn't exactly fought in a telephone booth (as some like to say) anyway.Comment

Both Great but for me Floyds is the better, more to it as some others have stated shoulder rolls, slipping ect.
Winkys is easier to figure out, VOLUME volume and Volume, power too! But VERY few fighters have the ability to pull it off!Comment
