Vargas had an incredibly short prime.

Vargas early success at 14-0 against champion Yori Boy Campas was his downfall.

Once he was champ, he was a marked man by more experienced fighters. Inspite of his inexperience (relatively speaking), his natural talent got him past Winky Wright and Ike Quartey. A perfect move by Felix Trinidad, at 38-0, picked a dangerous but still green Fernando Vargas and KO'd him on the 12th round. Vargas fought valiantly against the taller and more experienced Tito.

But right after that fight, he was never the same since. Wilfredo Rivera dropped him in the 2nd round of Vargas' next fight but luckily, Rivera's extremely reserved fighting style was able to help Vargas come back and defeat him.

Oscar then picked Vargas as his next opponent. That was Vargas best performance since his loss to Tito. With Oscar's body armor all the way up to his lungs, Vargas' body attack had no affect on Oscar and Oscar was able to KO Vargas in the 11th.

You all know the rest.

He should have never gotten against Yori Boy so soon. Hindsight is 20/20 but that's my 2 cents. Vargas is a victim of his own success.

I LUV Vargas but he is shot to ****! Tito Trinidad will do that to a man! ****in shame my bot Felix beat El Feroz so early in his career coz he ruined it and what a promising career it was - W ins over Campus Marquez Winky and Quartey THAT early in his career! He coulda been HUGE!

Call me crazy but I think he has a few fights left in him.....Don't get me wrong I do not mean against top notch opponents or fights for a title or anything but I still think he can beat a few guys that crack the top 10 in the LMW or MW division......
