Move over Las Vegas. Moscow, Russia may become the place for big-time boxing with no less than two heavyweight title bouts scheduled for the same day in June. The 12,000 seat Luzhniki Sports Palace will be the host for the delayed WBO title fight between title-holder Shannon Briggs and mandatory challenger Sultan Ibragimov. Meanwhile it also looks like WBC champ Oleg Maskaev will also box in the region, making his second title defense against returning former champion Vitali Klitschko. Both fights will be held on June 2nd. While television has not yet been secured for the Briggs fight, HBO appears to be on board to televise the Maskaev-Klitschko bout. "Subject to finalizing some details it looks like there's a good chance we're going to go June 2nd in Moscow," a source within the Maskaev camp informed *********. "If we had the opportunity (to move the date) we would but we're committed to June 2nd. There are some things that need to be finalized but subject to some final details it looks like we're going on that date." Although nothing is confirmed it appears that WBC mandatory challenger Samuel Peter will accept step-aside money with a guarantee to fight the Maskaev-Klitschko victor.

Well Brewster, Lyakovich, and Briggs all g0t their WBO shots without doing much more, and each of them won. Who knows what will happen? We've seen weirder things than Sultan beating Briggs.Last edited by kayjay; 03-19-2007, 01:35 PM.Comment

Peter is going to have it good this time, getting paid like 2.5 mil for sitting on his butt and then a guranteed 1.5 mil plus to fight the winner must be nice. We all know hes going to put on like 60-80 lbs in this time off.Comment

i was thinking the same thing, peter was feeling too big for his britches dancing around like ali in the last toney fight.... hes gonna eat his way through 500 grand by the time he fights the winnerComment
