    Marquez blew it..

the guy was wearin his nerves on his sleeves the whole night. he was wayyy to jumpy, got touched with a jab and he would freak out and feel like he would have to respond that instant, thats not marquez. he normally plays the opponent as a whole as oppose to playin it punch for punch. in this fight he would throw his jab and right hand, than flex his chin and leave his head out there. he wasnt even as attentative as he normally is, didnt pull his head back or anything. he was sloppy and off balance with his combos. i mean the guy only threw like 2 uppercuts the whole night, and thats his favorite punch to end combos with...as it got later he started to get comfortable, but even than he was off balance and over anxious. marquez would look like he was in a panic, and rushed, when barrera would do his little flurrys. marquez tried to match flurrys like he thought he was morales, but ended up looking sloppy. all he had to do was relax, step back and throw his powerfull straight punches, the same way hes always done with fighters who make those foolish mistakes. he could have picked barrera to pieces, and i think thats what everyone was expecting..

but the fact barrera dropped him to his knees says enough...barrera doesnt drop guys, marquez threw his right hand like he was second guessing it and he ate a counter punch that put him on his knees, thats not marquez, he's usually more attentative and disciplined for situations like that. he was shoulder stiff up to his kneck the whole night. barrera was hurt, threw a stiff right hand and marquez, in panic mode, abandoned his intelligence
and his natural ability to be attentive and ended up eatin that punch. marquez blew it..

this was marquez's moment, and he choked in a unbelievable fashion. but for a guy thats never had a fight like this, he did alirght as it got later in the fight. but you would feel more comfortable sayin somthin like that for a prospect, not a 33 year old veteran.

lol i think its obvious now that it doesnt pay to be over 30 years old gettin your first pay per view main event. if you dont got the expierience, i think it's safe to say you'll choke on the main stage.

i think you can make a arguement that he did win the fight, but he didnt win the fight like he should have. it was a horrible marquez fight....i was kinda hoping he wouldnt get the decision when the fight was over, just so he could see what it feels like and to understand the importantce of forgetting your nerves when you go into a bout.

but being that he won the decision....if another fight takes place between these two, he might not "understand" what it means to forget your nerves because he got a wide margin decision. he might show up to the next fight thinking he can perform like this and get a decision...i cant believe ignacio didnt get in juans face and tell him the truth, tell him that juan is fightin a "up-tight" fight. juan needed some sense of relaxation and never got it...and he needed it, being that this was his first pay per view showcase. he should have prepared for those emotions.

(ignore the incorrect spelling..had alot to drink =P)

nah, barrera didnt do anything impressive...juan marquez is the only thing that made barrera look good in the ring. if juan came in with the right state of mind and had his nerves in check, he woulda picked barrera apart.

instead, juan did foolish ****, juan got beside himself and did some **** that was careless and foolish for a fighter of his caliber.

hate to sound like im bashin juan, but hes over 30 years old...this was his time to shine and he couldnt do it. hes always been a much better fighter than marco and eric. i mean he had his moments where he showed he was the quicker, more intelligent puncher, especially in those late flurrys, but he still looked sloppy. he coulda looked more effective if he woulda calmed down and stepped back. but his nerves were so maxed out, that when he did actually look good, it was out of his natural instinct, even though it was clueless instinct. as oppose to bein out of his natural nessectiy as a brilliant figher. again...he only threw like 2 uppercuts, and thats his favorte finisher.

nerves make you do alot of second guessing, wich leads to a half ass performance.

marquez didnt look fluent at all, and when he did...he looked over anxious wich also made him look off balance.

barrera better come back for his belt for one last fight. juan deserves it, and so does marco.

I agree,he did look very nervous. You really saw how nervous he was when he hurt barrera and he kept second guessing himself with every punch he threw.

but this was also Marquez's first time fighting @ 130 since who knows when, against a barrera that has aged very well with a longer reach to compliment that great jab, I can understand why Marquez was nervous, I wouldnt say he blew it.

I understand what your saying that Marquez was uptight, but this was the fight of his life. Not only did he want to win, but he wanted to win in a gutsy fashion. Showing the people that he is a warrior and a true champion who does what it takes to win fights.
