Liakhovich/Toney Want to Fight!

I like this matchup better than Toney-Jirov II.. I think Liakhovich is a better hw than Jirov and would 'test' Toney more than Vasily. Plus, what's with the September date? I think that's too long to train and get ready for a fight. A June date with Liakhovich would be good.Comment

I swear, Liakhovich better never again fight like he did against Briggs. hopefully he got that whole thing out of his system...
but this is a good matchup i think...Toney frustrates people and urges them to fight with his style, usually makes exciting fights by forcing the opponent to throw a lot of punches...
Im impressed, this isnt a matchup i even thought of, but is a purposeful and potentially very exciting matchup!

Lightsout(post #2)^^^ is the man.
Sergei was promising before he wimped to Briggs. Letting Toney beat his ass may help restore his rep.

March 16, 2007
After a couple months absence former WBO Heavyweight Champion Sergei “The White Wolf” Liakhovich says he is fully healed, back in the gym and looking for a “meaningful” fight to begin his comeback.
Enter all-time-great former champion James “Lights Out” Toney who has eagerly accepted the challenge.
“We want to step in and supply the heavyweight division with a great match-up,” says Liakhovich’s manager, Ivaylo Gotzev of Elite Boxing Group. “It’s a pick-em fight.”
Liakhovich, who lost his championship to Shannon Briggs last November, says he’s been offered a different opponent by his promoter, Don King Productions, but isn’t interested in taking any “meaningless” fights.
“There have been offers made by DKP to face DaVarryl Williamson, but Williamson was 50% responsible for the most boring fight in heavyweight history against Chris Byrd. I want to fight the best. One of our choices is James Toney and he wants to fight me and I’d love to fight him.”
Toney’s manager, John Arthur, says he’s also eager to make the fight. “James will fight anybody, anywhere, any time. He’ll fight Sergei in a heartbeat.”
According to Arthur, his man is also physically ready for the challenge. “James is back in the gym. Both guys are getting ready and they want to get it on, so let’s make this fight!”
“Sergei is taking charge of his career, looking for the best fights possible," says Gotzev. "DaVarryl Williamson does nothing for us. We don’t want any part of that. James Toney wants the White Wolf and we want James Toney. Sergei is feeling great and all the way back. He has recovered well, and is stronger, bigger and better than ever. We want to continue making the greatest fights possible instead of playing up to the political side of the game.”Comment
