    Tim Sylvia MMA boxing skills

I know this took place last week, but did anyone see the UFC match between Tim Sylvia and Randy Couture(sp?)?

Syliva was the heavyweight champion, and his main game plan is striking.

I was amazed at how pathetic his general boxing skills were. I`ve seen people who have never boxed in their entire lives have better punching skills than this man.

He literally moved around the ring like some 265lb zombie, throwing punches that looked like they were in slow motion.

This guy was the havyweight champion? he never even laid a glove on his opponent, mainly a grappler, who actually out boxed him, despite being much shorter and outweighed by 50 pounds.

I just couldn`t believe that someone with literally no skills whatsoever could manage to get fight on TV and get paid....

I didn't see the aforementioned fight, but I know what you mean.A lot of MMA's supposed "strikers" seem wild & poorly trained to me.

Different boxing skills are used in MMA. MMA standup and boxing are apples and oranges. Weight distribution to lead leg is different compounded by the fact that you have to be wary of takedowns and fighters shooting in on your legs as you punch or after you punch.

Look at some of the tremendous strikers that Pride has at heavy weight i.e. Fedor and Mirko Cro-cop.

Sylvia has never been known as a great striker in MMA circles. He has a LONG jab and he does hit hard, thats it. Considering his size, those are a given.
