when he knockout Larry Holmes. People say he was an over the hill larry holmes, but tyson is the only one to ever knock him out.

when he knockedout michael spinks, people said he kod a blown up heavyweight, but that blown up heavyweight beat larr holmes for the belt and beat him to retain the belt.

people have their opinions on certain matters and i'll just leave it at that.

personally, in his prime i think he could beat any heavyweight or at least give them a run for the money. of course there would be tough matches, but his head movemet, his jab, going to the body, the speed he had, and of couse his power. i would not count out tyson in any fight when he is in his prime
    Excellent post!

tyson was lucky to fight in such a piss poor era.
The guy got owned by douglas. no matter how you look at it. no matter the excuse...the guy was no match , plain and simple.

Tyson was lucky not to face prime versions of guys like lennox lewis. or hell even vitali! EVEN HIM!...(after all he got owned by douglas and even outboxed by botha!).

the guy was a mental midget. a bit like golota. whenever things wouldn't go his way. whenever he couldn't ko his opponent after 5 or 7 round , he'd go crazy or very frustrated. (see his fight vs evander for a perfect example)..

even a 40ish+ past prime foreman achieved more than a past prime tyson.

I think an overwhelming factor is that Tyson beat anyone who was scared of him. When fighters came up against him and were not afraid that was when Tyson started to crumble. Dempsey, Louis, Lewis, Ali, Liston, Frazier, Foreman, even Marciano would not be afraid of Tyson and that's when it comes down to skill, power and heart and the best man wins.

Hell, Tyson fans, you should feel proud for your man that the names that people use when discussing who could beat a prime Iron Mike are a who's who of the best heavyweights of all time.

****** post, wuts the relavence in bringing up McBride? Tyson was shot to **** YEARS before he even fought him! Ali sux coz Berbick beat him! Mike Tyson had a fighters heart and great fighting spirit when he loved the sport he just lost his passion along the way! Smith frustrated the ****n out him by grabbing him ALL night but there Mike was still swinging away toi the end. He got tagged by Big Frank (a huge puncher) and was hurt, did he cower away? No he whaled straight back thats just a quick example of him back then, fighting was what he was all about!

Look is easy, Tyosn at 23 years old, if he lands on anyones chin, is going home sleeping. He had great head movement, a nice jab to the body, and he was the first to really throw a double left hook to the body which he than barng up to the head in the same quickness. Also, he does not get credit for being a really smart fighter, I think he should train kids now and see how he does. Also, in the buster fight, he ko'd buster, but got cheated out of that, and, he had 3weeks camp, no corner man, no cut man, they used a glove filled with water to try and make an impropt inswell. And when dropped, he tried to get back up, and fight, game to the bone. Past his priem, after the Holyfield losses, he still beat some ranked guys ugly. His story is just unfortunate one when you give an inner city kid, 100 million before hes 25, and thats where that gets you. Back to the thread, Ali could not have done rope a dope with tyson like he did with Foreman, because Tyson hits harder, and has staright short punches, and with Frazier, he had problems keeping farzier out. So in my opinion, he would probably get Ko'd, and so would Frazier because Frazier knows only one way to fight and thats forward, with some movement, and thats what tyson wants when he fights.

I totally agree. Tyson became lazy in the latter half of his record. He started to rely on intimidation to beat fighters. When Douglas came up against him and wasn't afraid he crumbled. all those fighter could give tyson a good fight. The thing bout all those gr8 fighters you mention was that when they were on the brink of defeat they came back to beat the opponent they could caome back from a defeat (except marciano) and beat the conqurer. All the p4p greats display that ability. SRR did it. Ali did it. Louis did it. Foreman did it. Tyson didn't

Tyson's record doesnt show it but he was one of, and if not, the best.

Valuev vs Tyson...who wins? I ask this wondering if Valuev's size would be too much for Tyson to cope with?

again...at 23 , tyson never had to face someone like lennox..NEVER.
not even Tua nor Vitali...that's how bad it was back then.
which is kinda ironic because today people even ***** about today's era (being piss poor).

but you don't have to look too far to see that the difference wasn't that much shocking actually.

Tyson , during his so called prime , has defeated monumental cans that'd make Ray Austin look like Ali. I don't know where they'd get some of these guys but it was just pathetic. some of these bums wouldn't even be concidered as D level fighters by today's standards.

Whenever tyson had to be tested...He would **** it up.
He defeated (past prime) big names.
got owned in his prime by a douglas (who's pretty much a nobody even when compared to some of today's champs).
                    got owned by evander.

the guy had no heart. Evander had a huge heart.

Tyson had great moments in his career too and I'm not gonna constantly bash on the guy cause He was a terrific fighter but his fans are so ****ing delusional and one sided it's ridiculous.

Tyson would just Whale away on that big flabby body! Mikes body work was sick and i doubt the clumbersum and slow Valuev would be able to land much on the super quick Tyson with all the excellent headmovement and low centre of gravity - he is small and Fights small it could work in his favour! But the clinches would be hell for Mike
