    Arce Q & A

    March 9, 2007

    By Christian Schmidt

On Thursday, Mexican superstar Jorge "Travieso" Arce (46-3-1) talked to reporters at a press conference in San Antonio with marks on his face. However the marks weren't a result of a punch, they were results of a kiss. It was just an example of how more and more popular Arce is become on an international level. On April 14th in the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, Arce will take on Cristian Mijares (30-3-2) for the WBC super flyweight championship live on Pay-Per-View in the co-main event of a card headlined by Manny Pacquiao vs Jorge Solis. Arce has gained fame by appearing on reality TV shows, bringing a exciting fighting style, and displaying considerable charisma outside the ring. ********* got a chance to get some interesting thoughts on the super flyweight that is making a heavyweight impact.

Your popularity has soared in the US over the past year, can you tell me why?

I guess my charisma, and I bring more to the show like coming out on a horse or a motorcycle, and also the fans just like the way I fight. (Smiling).

What is your opinion of your upcoming opponent Cristian Mijares?

He is a good fighter, very good technically. He knows what he is doing. However I believe at my division, there is no one as strong as I am.

Have you been to San Antonio before?

    This is my first time.

Last time we saw you fight, you had a pretty interesting entrance to the ring with the horse and all, and plans for another special entrance for your next fight?

Well, right now I am still thinking about it, but whatever I do, it will be something special.

Do you think you bring more excitement to your weight class?

    Yes, through my fighting style.

In the future, do you plan to move up in weight class, if so which weight?

Right now I am fine at 115 lbs. There are still good fights out there for me in this division, like Vic Darchinyan and Martin Castillo.

What are your top three active Mexican fighters pound for pound?

Number one would be Rafael Marquez, wait a minute, number one would be Jorge Arce (laughing). Number two would be Rafael Marquez and number three would be Marco Antonio Barrera.

Out of all the fighters out there right now, what would be your dream match up?

Vic Darchinyan. I want to shut his big mouth. I will shut his mouth with my hands (holds up fists).

You have been on a couple television shows now, any plans on going back to that?

Maybe, if they invite me or contact me, I might.

What is your prediction for your fight come April 14th with Mijares?

It will be a knock out, in no more than eight rounds.

Anything you would like to say to your fans?

Thank you for everything, God Bless all of you. I am so happy right now (smiling).
