This was a well written article. Margarito did the right thing by choosing to fight Williams. Williams is not a complete unknown. He has been showcased by HBO a few times already and they are very high on him...

The reason Cotto-Margarito didn't happen is because Arum said Margarito had to sign an extension to his promotional contract, since it runs out at the end of this year. But because Top Rank has done an absolutely terrible job promoting this guy, he doesn't want to sign the extension...

this is what i dont understand guys correct me if im wrong.....
everyone was talking **** about margarito not wanting to fight williams saying that he is ducking him so on and so forth and instead was going to face cotto for a lower risk, margarito was dismantled by fans/media by not taking his mandatory title defense, now he is fighting his mandatory and still he is being dismantled, why is that?
now he is scared of cotto c'mon, he said it right from the start "it's all business" now he is ducking cotto ?????? it's hard to champion regardless who you are.....

Where did you get this info from? I ask because this is the first I hear of this.

I wouldn't blame Arum for asking for an extension but that's easily negotiable on Margo's part (as in "I'll fight Cotto without the extension or I'll fight Williams without the extension. You make double the money with Cotto. If you don't give me the Cotto fight with no extension, after I fight Williams I'll sit out the contract and sign with Golden Boy. You're call, Bob.").

imo your wrong. it all has to do with arums politics.

cotto would have been easier money less pain more statis then williams.
