Ah, a weekly Lewis/Vitali thread. Vitali was on the way to KO Lewis. If anybody doesn't believe that, watch the way Lewis stumbles back to his corner after the last round, he was about to fall down on his own.
Could Lewis K.O Vitaly When They Fought?

First off for a rematch yes they should fight again for a rematch but it's not gonna happen because Lewis is not coming back.
Now on if Lewis could have KOed Vitali . . . I'll say yes a very big possibility. Notice the punch stats of the fight? And notice what round the fight was stopped? That was only the 6th round (with Vitali ahead on all the judges cards by 2 points). Vitali was out throwing Lewis on both the jab and power punches but Lewis was way ahead on percentage of hits.

Meaning Vitali will most likely be drained ahead of Lewis first because he is so busy throwing punches that doesn't find it's mark and he is receiving a lot more of punishment in return. PLus the fact that he's losing blood because of the big cut in his face . . . what do you think would be the effect on Viyali on the later rounds? He is going to be exausted and will be an easy target for Lewis.
Again the fight was stopped on the 6th rounds where Lewis was just starting to pick it up.Last edited by psychopath; 03-08-2007, 10:27 PM.Comment

I think if the fight went on, it would look like the last round of Jirov v.s. Toney, where Vitali collapsed from exhaustion and Lewis put him down or out.
He was slowing down, and when the fight was stopped.....Lewis was picking up pace and landing huge uppercuts that were snapping Vitali's head back.
Vitali won the fight up to the cut IMO but he still lost fair and square even if the cut was caused by a lace on the glove, whatever. There have been worse decisions in fights that have gone the distance that received less controversy and some of them bigger events.
I think everyone is just bitter there was never a rematch. So that leaves the possibility of constant speculation open. I suppose you could point to the second round and say "Well Vitali had Lewis out on his feet" and I'm sure he did....but he never finished him. Lewis wasn't the kind of guy that would get broken down, you'd have to jump on him and smother him if he's hurt.
Not just lean your head back and throw pawing jabs like Vitali did with an infrequent right hand at angles that stunned Lewis.
I dont agree. vitali never looked wobbled to me. he looked tired and was obviously a mess with the cuts but he never looked close to being stopped. lewis was also very tired. the way vitali jumped up in obvious outrage of the decision was hardly the look of a man on the verge of being knocked outComment

yea,,,seems like so many are thinking lewis was on the verge of a knockout just based on him getting the better of it in that last round. there was ebb and flow in that fight and times when lewis seemed to be coming on in one round but then vitali would take over again the next. lewis looked very bad when he went back to his corner as did vitaliComment

I only recall one great uppercut and it did snap vits head back,,but vit never wobbled. vitali landed the better straight rights and wobbled lewis badly on 2 occasions with them. lewis couldnt land his right hand the way he normally does becuase he had to reach up. he normally throws it downward which he couldnt do on vitali becuase of his height and straight up styleComment

nah Vitali is not on the verge of being K.Oed when the fight was stopped. Not yet on that point. But he's tiring quicly than Lewis and receiving few more punches could possibly zapped him down.I dont agree. vitali never looked wobbled to me. he looked tired and was obviously a mess with the cuts but he never looked close to being stopped. lewis was also very tired. the way vitali jumped up in obvious outrage of the decision was hardly the look of a man on the verge of being knocked outComment

but lewis also threw a lot that round and looked very gassed as he slumped in his corner at the end of the round and looked relieved when the fight was stopped. everyone seems to have a different opinion on it and I guess it doesnt matter as lewis won the fight anyway. its a shame they didnt rematch 6 months after that fightComment
