I reckon that Marciano, Chuvalo, Duran and LaMotta (4 of the greatest punishment taking fighters of all time) may well disagree with you there. In fact, the way you've disregarded them makes your question border on ignorance (I will resist saying moronic racism). Perhaps a better question would be, why is it that it seems to be that all the best boxers are black (a slightly more credible and somewhat undeniable question).
Lamotta and Marciano were Italian-Americans, not your average run-of the-mill white Americans. I don't know why guys like Tommy Morrison and Darrin Van Horn had china in their beards. It may have something to do with their ethnicity, it may very well not. But the one thing that cannot be denied are the stats.Comment

Spadafora never struck me as an overwhelmingly tough guy in the beard. He was dropped on several occasions, most notably by Victoriano Sosa. Now McCullough was a tough mother****er, no doubt about it. He however is an Irish national who competed in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona for his home country. Micky Ward, well he's just a tough mother****er also.Comment

Tex Cobb had a ****ing beard. That dude was tough as all get out. If there were an Olympic event for taking a punch, he'd get a medal.Comment
