Morrison said most of the fighters he knew in the late 80s and 90s were on roids.

I think Tyson was on em after Prison, but not before. The way he just shot into ripped shape before the Etienne fight was extremely su****ious (that case stands out in my mind).

To Use Or Not To Use

Wasn't booze the top performance enhancer for a few famous athletes?

John L. Sullivan and The Babe come to mind.

It's unfortunate and unfair that most athletes resort to drugs and other potions to enhance their performance. Sort of a catch 22. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

There have to be many athletes who are naturally gifted and don't require that stuff.

Many use alternative chemical mixtures that aren't as dangerous as 'roids, ie: creatine and other so called "enhancers of the month", despite the fact that there are major, long term health risks involved with many products that aren't even regulated by the FDA.

Hence, any athlete who wants to reach the top of his game, win at all costs, and "make the most money" doing it, will resort to just about anything without doing the due diligence on the ingredients of the enhancer. Irregardless of the price he/she may pay with their health.

As for 'roids, we'll probably never get to know about the ones who slipped thru the cracks, who really use or have used them to better their performance, unless they're caught via random testing, which can be tricky since most over-the-counter drugs and off-the-shelf products can trigger a negative result.

When a hungry athlete with stars in their eyes reaches a fork in the road, he/she will make that critical decision to use or not to use .

And after the many triumphs, tribulations, praise, accolades, and the awards, the question then becomes (if they're still healthy and alive):

              Was it all worth it?

I know a few fighters that have used steroids, but names shall be withdrawn. This is an issue that has really tarnished the sport in recent years, particularly since most of these guys have been world champs juicing.

When it comes down to the integrity of any sport, then this subject shouldn't even be dicussed but for the negative results.

If there's no shame or guilt of roid use then, it should be categorized as: "accepted as the norm".
