  • Let's Rate Some Chins

On percieved and educated assessments please.

Titanium - Unstoppable, cannot hurt or legitimately KD them

Cast Iron - Could be stopped on massive accumulation only from a big puncher, needs a Foreman esque puncher to KD or stun and a perfect shot.

Iron - Can take a licking from big punchers, if goes down, will get right back up and takes a hell of a shot at that to be dropped. Extremely hard to stop.

Good - Obviously good overall punch resistence, cannot be KTFO, but can be stopped by a monsterous puncher or down for the 10 count on exhaustion ONLY. Very hard to stop.

Average - Can be hurt or dropped by good punchers easier than the good class, but recovers normally. Takes a monsterous puncher to truly scramble, even then will most likely be a TKO and not a KTFO. Journeyman level punchers do not harm this class. Proper defense combined with this chin make it workable.

Shaky - Can be KTFO by good and above World Class punchers, can be stunned by non world class punchers. Plenty of these types can compete on the World Level with proper defense and heart involved.

Glass - KTFO multiple times by a variety of different kinds of punchers, can sometimes hold up to non World Class punchers, but rare. This is very weak punch resistence and recquires a great defense or speed to compete on the World level.

Grade A China - A chin so bad that a single clip from a Journeyman level fighter puts it OUT. So bad that it cannot compete on the World Level even with a good defense.

Please use these to rate them as you see them. Let's start with:

    Samuel Peter
    Acelino Freitas
    Chad Dawson
    Joe Calzaghe
    Miguel Cotto
    Jason Litzau
    Hasim Rahman
    Thomas Hearns
    Diego Corrales
    Ricky Hatton
    Darnell Wilson

    Too much work.......

I think P4P though I can't think of a better chin than James Toney. He has taken shots from some hard hitters as a HW and still has'nt been hurt badly anyway.

I also don't think there is such thing as Titanium or whtever you said.......everyone can be hurt or KD it depends on their balance and if it is a clean enough shot....some guys just avoid getting hit clean enough to be hurt.

My top chins overall are Toney,Winky and Castillo he has been stopped but mostly on cuts except the Corrales fight.

Tommy Morrison=Good - Obviously good overall punch resistence, cannot be KTFO, but can be stopped by a monsterous puncher or down for the 10 count on exhaustion ONLY. Very hard to stop.

Tommy was never really KTFO, in the Mercer fight he went down on his hands and knee's and got back up after the fight had been called. all of Tommy's Losses were by TKO none by KO, the beating he took from Mercer proves all of this, Michael Moorer was KO'd by one punch by Tua,Foreman and went down on his back and stayed down, Tommy NEVER went down like that even after what Mercer did to him. Tommy Morrison's chin is underrated and dont even try to argue about that

I'd say Calzaghe is at least "Iron" chinned.
