What does Oktay Urkal have to do to win?

I know everyone is pretty much universal on the idea that this is a dead man walking...

His record is stuffed full of euro tomato cans obviously..

But he's gone the distance with Tszyu and Vivian Harris..both of whom punchers and decent boxers.

Is it possible for him to stay out of harms way enough to win rounds with effective boxing?

My biggest problem with finding some way for this man to win is the fact he cant even knock out hand picked trash opponents...(12 freaking KO's...is he paulie mag's father or something?) So I feel Cotto is going to get all up in that ace...early and often.

So...throw out some ideas of how he pulls off the upset.

Pepper him with 1-2's while Cotto comes in to punch, and move. Malignaggi sucessfuly did this for a few rounds.

well it pretty hard because he is fighting cotto in PR and he is the heavily underdog with everything against him.

even if he stole some round enough to win there is great possiablity that he could be robbed.

i think on way to win Cotto is try to attack his rib cage and left elbow so it would be hard for him to left hook. but he does have the power.

another way is to play possum and then at the end got for a ferouis attack til Cotto lossess stamina and gets KOed in the later round.

i dont know what Urkal has so it pretty hard to say and never seen his style but another way is to play the couter game where cotto is for sure going to throw left hook and he blocks it with his gloves and elbow and then comes with his own left hook

Though Harris explained away his close win over Urkal with a TKO, Oktay lost a mixed desicion the first time against Vivian by only a few rounds. Against Tsyzu he also lost a close fight. The guy must have some boxing ability- the problem will be that he has not displayed being either skilled enough to dance around Cotto or powerful enough to keep him at bay. His lack of punching power will make it hard to stop from getting bullied. I would say his only shot is have a flawless night, boxing well, and hope Miguel is taking him lightly.

he'd have to be a mover, so cotto can't plant his feet and punch with full power, even then if he can't hit hard enough to get miguelito's respect he's in for a rough night

Yeah, exactly. If you can't keep Cotto from bullying you by showing you have pop yourself, you need to be able to dance and box- very, very well. I don't think Oktay can box quite that well.

he went the distance with tszyu because tszyu let him...simple as that

however, urkal is a very good technical fighter, but man, he should have retired after his first loss to harris.......i've watched all of his fights since and he has been a shadow of his prime.........

he really is a deam man walking..............and he better hope that cotto has a night where he is just happy to cruise to a points win!
