I wouldn't convict him without further evidence but it sure appears to be the case. That specific look in the lower picture would seem unusual in a 38 year old who purely does weights. ANY kind of cardio, bag work, sparring etc would make that bulky physique next to impossible to achieve.Comment

Tommy Morrison openly admitted in an interview with Boxing News a few years back that he took steroids. He also alleged that most boxers did, certainly in the heavyweight division. Boxing News took pains to point out that that was Morrison's opinion, and not necessarily a fact.Comment

Some people really do have GREAT Genetics. If your ancestors weren't lazy ****s, well fed, you will have great genes as well.
It seems today, if you have quality muscle, are lean/ripped, you are on steroids.
There are many that juice, this is true, but not everyone.
Just look at Greek and Roman Statues, they are very muscualar. People do pose for those statues you know?
Also look at Bodybuilders from the turn of the 20th century, then respond.
For Tommy, Yeah, he is most likely on steroids. He admitted he used them before for boxing. He was on them for H.I.V.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 02-25-2007, 08:06 AM.Comment

Muscle Memory, yes, but Tommy said he would of been a Cruiserweight if not on steroids. Muscle Memory is also about the peak limits of your own genetics. The level of hormones released in your body is genetic, if healthy. Everybody has different levels of hormones released. You also have to take muscle memory into account here.Tommy used to be a very muscled up guy back in the day. When your over muscled and you quit working out you will lose alot of that muscle over time but when you start working out again it comes back very fast.Ive seen pictures of older guys who were big body builders in there younger days who hadnt lifted in 20 years or so start lifting again and put most of that muscle back on in 8 months to a year.Ive heard a couple of peoples opinions on why and some say its easy to put that size back on because the muscle had allready been stretched that far.Comment

Most people that say that NEED to say that because they NEED to BELIEVE it; they need to believe that the only reason they are inferior to other "MEN", is because the "Elite" are on Steroids.Tommy Morrison openly admitted in an interview with Boxing News a few years back that he took steroids. He also alleged that most boxers did, certainly in the heavyweight division. Boxing News took pains to point out that that was Morrison's opinion, and not necessarily a fact.
In a study, they found that most people that used steroids early on were actually non-athletes, or those that felt they couldn't compete.
I used to hear it in the gym all the time, people accusing others of juicing, or if they admit they are juicing they say, "Well, everybody else is doing it"
That is why I agree, like you stated, that Boxing News took "pains" to point out that, that was Morrison's opinion."Comment

His stamina in his Prime wasn't that great anyway. If he was a natural Cruiserweight like he stated, then that extra 20-30 pounds on his frame is going to hurt him.while it is evident that tommy has taken steroids, i don't criticize him for being very tired during/after his fight. He himself admitted he has been off for 11 years, and it is difficult to come back from that. He should become better and better as each fight goes on, and he himself stated he won't be back to his old self for another 6-8 months.Comment

Sorry Benny but I have to disagree. There is a major difference between lean muscle with a low percentage of surface fat covering it as seen in greek sculpture and the bloated, bulky muscle of the anabolic steroid user.
Not one turn of the century body builder had that paunch with a six pack pushing through as seen on that Tommy Morrison picture. Most were bulky with certain sizeable features (primarily shoulders and arms) but very little definition compared to todays bodybuilders and indeed Mr. Morrison.
The expanded gut with six pack muscles appearing stuck on is a common feature of steroidal bodybuilding. Check out many of the popular WWE wrestlers from the 80s through today. Big Poppa Pump comes directly to mind as a prime carrier of that style of body. I believe it is due to a large retention of water.
To address your point, I am a lean 160 pounds with six pack and have no jealousy of Mr. Morrison. Once again I would not convict without definitive proof but in my mind the proportions of Morrison's body fit the classic steroid profile.Comment

I disagree with the second bold:
Yes, the definition of the muscles today of the steroid users beat out the average "natural" bodybuilder, but there were some that had incredible definition "back in the day"
I have pics if you need proof. However, the bodybuilders that are over 200 pounds, don't compare.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 02-25-2007, 09:18 AM.Comment
