    Ring Skill Translates to Training?

What are your opinions on the following:

Does an ex-fighters ring ability and fighting prowess translate over to their training career? Does it directly influence how well they'll be able to guide their own fighters? How much of the training game comes from simple knowledge of the sport?

Guys like Ray Leonard and Pernell Whitaker are training fighters...since they were rather complete fighters themselves and saw everything in the ring does that mean they'll necessarily be effective trainers? Buddy McGirt is (although he has struggled lately) an example of an uber-talented fighter who has a gift for guiding fighters to success.

People tend to guide their fighters according to their own strenghts and experiences in the ring. Good trainers are those who acknoledge their fighters own weakness and strenghts and work to make them better, not necessarily to change their style.
