Holyfield was a big media name before he fought tyson too, lets not forget his videogame was a big success. He beat the man that beat tyson, that got him lots of hype. I'm sure his fights with bowe drew big numbers. Holy vs lennox drew well over a million buys, so that proves he is one of the biggest draws of all times.

His role on dancing with the stars can help too.

These two are also close in terms of purses.

I've heard both gents are upwards of 200M.

      No coincidence there..

He was also fortunate to be one of the bigger names in one of the top heavyweight eras of all time. A mixture of "right time right place" and some shrewd marketing made him a fairly big name. But it was Tyson who brought him into the living rooms of the world.

That non-fan knew who holyfield obviously was right. Its funny man, whenever i talk boxing with casuals, they all know who holyfield is. I asked a buddy once, do u know de la hoya, and hes like nah man I only know guys like tyson and lennox, i dont pay attention to some random nobodies. lol.

                  That is FALSE

he's already a household name before Tyson. he's already earning $20M per fight before the Tyson fight. He's a SUPERSTAR in his own right.
