Why Wanst VARGAS in any FOTY's????

I can understand why DLH-VARGAS didnt win, because WARD-GATTI was the same year.

But VARGAS-TRINIDAD, one of the best fights in a long time, was a better fight then MORALES-BARRERA. IMO.

AND it ended in a more exciting KO.

I dont understand why that didnt get the NOD for FOTY.

AND, his fights w/ Quartey, Mosley I, even his fight with WINKY WRIGHT, were all great action fights.

I guess it was just bad luck, that there was a much better fight during the year, but i really think TRINIDAD-VARGAS deserved the FOTY nod in 2000

Well, you're probably in the minority in thinking Tito-Vargas was better than MAB-Morales 1, but I agree that the ending was certainly better.

The Ring makes some strange choices at times.

No way was Holyfield-Tyson I a better fight than other fights in 1996 like Barrera-McKinney and Gatti-Rodriguez. It was just a bigger and better event.

    Gatti-Ward 3 wasn't better than Toney-Jirov.

Lewis-Tyson wasn't a better KO than Toney-Robinson. A knockout of the year shouldn't need a shoulder shove to get the guy down.

The Winkyand Mosley fights weren't fight of the year material by a long shot. His fights with Quartey and Trinidad were, however. The Trinidad fight however was marred by foul recovery breaks which negatively affected the fight. Barrera-Morales I was a much better, faster paced fight, even if neither man had any power to hurt each other with. I think that last point is what most hurt those fights.

o no im not saying they WERE foty matertial, but they were great fights. And its a shame that an exciting fighter like VARGAS will never get the recognition of a FOTY award.

Unless VARGAS-MAYORGA turns into a war, which it very well could if they arent completely washed up

They are both completely and utterly washed up. At this point, they should either retire or be collecting paydays against young up and comers.

Shame for Vargas i agree, he is the type of fighter who deseres an award like that! Morales vs Barrear was an absaloute Cracker! However i own both fights (Actually a buch of Morales fights, a handfull of MAB fights and Tito's full career!) and i watch the Tito vs Vargas fight more, its the KD's and KO that seperate the 2 for me ever so slightly!

Just a matter of bad timing. It happens.

Frank Fletcher and Aaron Pryor were never in FOTYs either.

Manny Pacquiao has yet to be in one either.

Aaron Pryor-Alexis Arguello I was Fight of the Year in 1982. It was also selected as Ring Magazine's Fight of the Decade.

Chacon-Limon IV won in 1982 for fight of the year.

well thats not true. I think VARGAS is pretty much a shot fighter. But you have to remember, VARGAS has always been hurt from shots upstairs.

It happened thorughout the entire TRINIDAD Fight and pretty much every big fights he has been in, he's been hurt upstairs.

I DONT think MAYORGA is completely washed up though. He showed some resolve and good abilities in his fight with DLH. He took some very big shots and fought on. That first round KD was from a shot he didnt see coming, but he still recovered fine
