One thing I noticed is Malagnangihiagei seemed more modest than I expected. Saying he wasn't ready for Hatton yet, I agree with him but I was surprised to hear him say it. I guess Cotto really did humble him.

Also, although he really did outbox Cherry, he wasn't as slick and flashy as he seemed to be before he fought Cotto (or at least from the highlights they showed from the builtup to the Cotto fight). I never got to see him fight before Cotto and since he went more toe to toe with him I still didn't get to see the style that supposedly made him stand out. Probably the step up in competition or it being all prefight highlight reel clips that can exaggerate everything?

Also, for a slick fighter Malignaggi got hit more than I thought he would. Try to remember how much slower Cherry was.

I knew Cherry was a waste of time after seeing him in with the Santa Cruz guy that got destroyed in his last fight. Cherry didn't show me any heart or desire that night so I figured Malignaggi would dust him. If you wanna make a Malignaggi fight interesting, the opponent has to at least have heart or power like Cotto.

Kessler-Andrade comming up on HBO BAD march 24th.

That COULD be a very interesting fight - depending IF Andrade is able to negotiate Kessler's jab and challenge him on the inside.
If not - it could still be a pretty good lesson in controlled agression on Kessler's account.

I spent the evening at a local show and watched a local favorite get off the canvas twice and KO his opponent and saw a back and forth slugfest in the co-main event. A lot of these "world class" events just don't entertain, and it's not because I don't appreciate a good technical bout, but it does come down to effort and heart and boxers you want to cheer for - those things are becoming less and less prevalent anymore...

njord i understand where your coming from. but think your over dramatizing it.
but i dont mind watching a winky fight.
and i'm going to be more interested in the undercard of the next cotto fight than cotto fight.

i thought the fights were ok, i was entertained. there was some good tactics going on.
sometimes the fast good boxer, makes the other guy look bad. they cant get into their game plan (ex. malinaggi vs cherry).
the boxing was good. no one wants to get knocked out these days so everyone is more carefull.
these fights you saw yesterday won't be no different then the big pay per view as the one coming up on may 5th, de la hoya vs pretty boy. and we're gonna be paying 50-60 bucks for that one....

The best "matchup" of the night was Powell vs Smith, however the fight did not materialize. It seemed that both were a little afraid to mix it up. They did not want to engage. But that's what separates the great ones from the good ones. Yes they are good fighters, but why did they not go out there and fight the 12th round like they wanted to win the fight. Great fighters go out there and take that last round, or try to. Remember Erik vs Pac-man 1, Oscar vs Quartey, Shane, Whitaker, Erik vs Marco (all 36 rounds). These guys went out there and fought for that last round. The great ones do it. Smith and Powell are alright fighters, but when it's time to perform, it won't happen. Not everyone can be great.

Anyway, the other two fights were a joke. Malinj;galsdi, whatever his name is, is a punk wanna be biotch, Hector Camacho he is not. They put him in there against a slower lightweight, big deal. That was a fight that was supposed to market him. Just another white hype fighter. And how do they put him as the main event. He just got his ass kicked in his last fight, come on now. I say put him in there with Castillo, Corrales, Hatton or Harris. He'll get KTFO.

That Berto fight was a waste of everybodies time. Bravo fights like somebodies grandpa. ****, he aint even a contender.

We all thought that, based on style match-ups, the fights would be so much better than they were. Smith and Powell would fight their hearts out and have a battle, Malignaggi would either dust Cherry like nobody's business or we'd at least see Edner put it all on the line...nothing. These men fought...but not with much desire for glory.

He fought Cotto in his last fight, and he made the fight competitive. How do you see any of the four knocking him out that easy is beyond me. I dislike Maglinaggi too but don't let the hate cloud your judgement.
