also how do you know who your opponent is? Thats rare in the amateurs unless it is a big tournament or passd the first round in a tournament. Plus amateurs weigh in the day of the fight so you havent even weighed in yet.

Watch Ibragimov vs. Austin again and you'll see exactly how NOT to fight against a tall opponent. Watch Ibragimov vs. Whittaker and you'll see exactly how to fight against a tall opponent.

I assume you are the same weight...a 8 inch height difference????

If that is the case he must be extremely thin for the weight or you must be extremely wide......

The tactics are simple, lots of head movement, close the gap and work the body....dont let him breathe...run over him!!!

Alright guys the big day is here and i will try to keep what you guys said in mind. The only reason I know how tall he is, is because he goes to my school. The fight will be recorded so hopefully I'll be alive to put it on here so we can see how I do. Wish me luck!

If you've ever seen the movie Enemy Of the State with Will Smith...there's a gem of dialouge in the movie by Gene Hackman about turning your weaknesses into strengths. Yes the man you're fighting is taller, but he'll only have a supreme advantage if the fight is dictated on his terms. Keeping you at arms length using that height advantage to protect is in the taller guy's best interest. It's in your best interest to maintain a low center of gravity and use the elusiveness that comes with being smaller. Manipulating a big man into fighting on your level (literally) is taxing on his body. Be low, be slippery, and keep your eyes peeled for the openings that come with.

              Good luck.

Some of Tyson's opponents were 8 inches bigger than him...he usually lost to them but dont let that stop you.

Keep you hands high...how long have you being boxing? Cut the ring off get inside the entire fight don't let him use his height at all. Be really aggresive with him if in trouble low blow, elbow, hug until the ref says something to you.
