He can tattoo Cotto and move the way Floyd did against Corrales, the way Hopkins did Trinidad. He has the legs and reflexes to do it. He was doing that to Floyd in the initial rounds of that fight. He can do it, and has done it.

Cotto is begging to get clowned by a fighter with superior athletic ability.

As far as the difference between the punch that Kostya threw, and the one that Baldy threw my point is this; Cotto doesn't have either one.

Cotto hooks his punches and preferably needs a stationary target to land.
    Wind up doll attack.

He did do a great job of battering Quintana around the ring, but he was not a world class opponent. Quintana is as much of a victory for Cotto as Martell was for Judah. And Judah KD'd Martell 5 times in the first round on the way to a TKO1.

Another thing; Cotto's class of opposition has been laughable in some cases.

Judah has the experience advantage against the elite.

He also has all the physical advantages.

Where we end up with Cotto as the victor is beyond me... I suppose it has something to do with this perception regarding momentum.

    Bottom line:

Zab has the greatest advantage of all. He KNOWS what Cotto is going to do.

Cotto does NOT know what Zab is going to do.

The Judah that beat Floyd to the punch for 5 rounds was an anomaly and a result of Floyd's excellent strategy plus the extreme amount of energy exerted by Judah to accomplish this. This was not and is not his usual strategy. Plus Cotto will bring the consistent and brutal body attack that will eventually slow Zab down.

physical advantages: Zab is faster with foot and hand, Cotto is stronger, far stronger. Reflexes of both men are very good.

Cotto does have a good, hard and straight right hand(see Torres knocked down and almost folded over backwards by a Cotto right) Please don't try to tell me Baldomir throws a harder right, no way.

I never saw the Martell fight or saw martell fight but in looking at his record its seems he was a shade or two below Quintana who proved what he was made of against Julio. As far as opposition goes (which Im big into as an indicator) Zab has fought some bigger names, you are correct but lets put it into the proper context:

Kostya Tszyu- Zab got brutally TKO'd in the 2nd round makes for not such good experience

Floyd Mayweather- good opening rounds but faded, got beat up and avoided the possibility of stoppage by overtly fouling

Carlos Baldomir-solid opponent, not known for punching power who changed the fight with 1 punch to Zab's temple, Zab then seemed to play it safe content to losing his title instead of taking more risks

Corey Spinks- super slick with no power. Ugly as hell! Zab went 1 for 2 TKO'ing him in the 2nd fight

the rest of the best guys Zab fought are either well below or just below the last 11 fighters Cotto has fought, every one of those 11 were good to very good opposition who were defeated in impressive fashion. so whose opposition was better is subjective, but Cotto has fought good tough oppostion consistently for several years.

The only mutual opponent was Demarcus Corley, who I have always felt is one of the most underated fighters of recent. Cotto was on his way to destroying Corley when the ref prematurely stopped the fight after Corley was knocked down and than took a knee, Corley did hurt Cotto which prompted a small impression of the now infamous Zab Judah chicken dance. I have not seen Judah vs Corley.

anyway this should give you some food for thought before you write Cotto off and give the impression it all depends on what Zab shows up.

I think Zab is so hungry that he will not be denied, plus he has one thing on his mind - getting back the belts! Zab is too quick for Cotto, it's Zab by a U.D. in a mild upset....

It did indeed. I enjoyed it.

This is precisely what I was hoping to flush out with my comments.
Someone with a tactical overview of this fight.

This will be savored. I'll keep dropping in on this thread.

Tuggers is a good man to make this for us.

You are absolutely right. It could go either way.

Baldomir proved to be an accurate puncher, if not a lucky one with his right hand against Judah. Without that punch he most likely would not have won.

Cotto closes his eyes when he punches. (Kidding!!)

          Here's the Martell fight:
