"I'm not doing too good," Briggs. "To me, this was almost $2 million. I'm sick about it. I'm destroyed over this. It was an easy payday for me. Hopefully, we can push it back to May or June and I will be better."

    Please pass the puke bucket!

Briggs pulls out of title defence

Shannon Briggs has pulled out of his next month's world title defence against Russia's Sultan Ibragimov with pneumonia.

The American veteran was scheduled to meet Ibragimov at Madison Square Garden in a mandatory defence of his WBO heavyweight title.

But having struggled with the illness and breathing difficulties during training, Briggs, who has yet to defend the title he claimed from Serguei Lyakhovich last November, withdrew on Tuesday.

Although promoters will try and move the bout for later in spring, it's unlikely Madison Square will be the venue.

The 35-year-old is 48-4-1 with 42 knockouts, while unbeaten Ibragimov is 19-0-1 with 167 KO's and is the WBO's number one contender.

by the way, when audley beats sprott, and then KO's skelton, he will get a shot at Briggs

One thing I like about Briggs is that after the fight he'll keep it real and say "sorry I said that ****, it was just to sell a fight". I mean, everyone knows that's the reason, but you could see Lyak was hurting after that knockout and Briggs didn't want him to feel bad. If you watch he tells Lyak that all the pre fight talk was just a bunch of BS to promote the fight, and it meant so much to him for Lyakhovich to understand this. I was really impressed with Briggs in that respect.

i agree...i think there should be a balance between talk and action. While i will admitt he talks to much i do think boxers shoul;d tak more.

As for Shannon complaining about what Sultan did to deserve his shot, what about what did Briggs do to deserve his shot at Lyak? His greatest win in recent memory was over a completely shot Mercer. Briggs needs to just shut up, train hard, and let his fists do the talking.
