Cotto team looking at Judah for June 9th

Yes, that's right, Evangelista Cotto has said in an interview that they originally wanted the winner of Mosley-Collazo or Cintron for that fight but that Top Rank has recently introduced the name of Zab Judah to the mix.

Judah has a fight set for April 27th but seeing as this fight would be a lot more money, maybe he'll cancel that fight to go for Cotto in NYC.

I think this is a very interesting fight. Judah has the hand speed advantage but he's coming off a year layoff so the ring rust might be too much to overcome against a strong opponent like Cotto.

    What do you guys think?

Judah is now a high risk/low reward opponent. but it would be an interesting fight. He could definitiely hit Cotto.

dont really want to see this **** , but if zab could pull it off ,,it would put him back on top i think ... but if cotto wins , it would make him a bigger attraction for mosley later this year...

Stylistically, I think Cotto is all wrong for Judah. He's a murderous puncher who will apply more pressure than Judah can cope with. The fighter that will be Cotto will ( I believe) be someone who can take the fight to him, absorb his punches, and get to him with heavy firepower (Cotto's chin is still a little suspect). Cotto is built to destroy someone like Judah, who will try to run from him, and as a result be at the end of his punches. yet won't have the ability to test his chin.

Given that there is no other notable opponent for Cotto, this is the best matchup out there.

This is BIG risk HUGE reward for Judah. If he wins, he's right back on top and could demand big fights with Mosley, the Margarito-Williams winner and even a Mayweather rematch.

BUT...if he loses, and I agree so much with chidave--Cotto has the perfect style to beat Judah, think Baldomir's fight plan with 10x the strength and ability, yikes!--who knows what would happen.

He would have to make a comeback in earnest, fighting every two months at minimum and KO'ing fringe contenders a la Rahman if he ever wanted another shot. Or perhaps move back down to 140, which it looks like he would be able to do.

There's a Witter rematch (I'm sure Junior would love to avenge himself), the N'Dou-Hopkins winner and of course the Castillo-Hatton winner OR loser, depending on the situation. He has options because the networks love his profile and style, so a loss won't end his career, but it would necessitate a drastic career move.

In Judah's defense--Malignaggi had measured success in his fight with Cotto, and Judah is just as quick and hits considerably harder, so it could go either way. Besides, the Judah who fought Mayweather, at least for the first 4 rounds, would have had great success vs. Cotto I think.

As always, it depends on which Zab Judah shows up.
