  • How can Boxing get more fans?

I applaud networks like Telemundo, Telefutura, Espn, and VS. They all show decent to great fights for free and every now and then you get some title fights. This already is beginning to generate fans but stuff like HBO PPV hurts the sport. And more often than not every great fight is on PPV. Hardly any new boxing fan will pay 50 bucks for fights. So what do you think needs to happen? I think NBC CBS and ABC should jump in and all show one fight a month

Broadcast fights on ABC. Have fighters in comercials. You notice, not one boxer is in gatorade, nike, adidas comercials. Theres every major sport, but no boxers.

Well if HBO and Shotime are both moving into the MMA stuff, you know it's not getting better and either they see it or they just want more viewers for their networks knowing that MMA is huge right now. With the new MMA broadcasts on Shotime and HBO, it'll only get worse. Dunno how they gonna get more fans by bringing in the MMA.

Good point! Also have less **** on PPV and make the good fights happen instead of bitching about money! I think shows like the Contender r really good for boxing, and this thing there doin with Floyd and Oscar sounds like a great idea too

Build more boxing gyms. There are basketball courts and fields everywhere. Get ESPN to cover more boxing. Its rare to see them talk about boxing on ESPN or ESPNEWS. They show college football or basketball ALLLLL DAY on Saturday. For an hour or 2 they could cover boxing.

Boxing can get more fans, but it will never reach football or basketball type level.

The reason the fans are staying home is because there are too many boring fights. Boxers today need to get back to better conditioning and better training. Boxing is not a steeplechase nor is it a kissing and hugging contest. There is a reason why Manny Pacquiao is one of the biggest draws in boxing. He is giving the fans what they paid for. It is high time the rest of those bums started to take notice.

Put boxing on ABC, CBS, NBC and it will get much more popular. You just have to put it out there, and show it during the day. Pay ESPN to cover more fights. Jermain Taylor, Mayweather, Wlad should all be stars right now, but nobody sees them. Like I always say, whens the last time you saw Sportscenter even mention boxing? Or Pardon the Interuption (besides the Bell incident)?

If boxing REALLY wanted to be more popular, it would try and do it. Most of them dont give a **** it seems.

those are all good ways as pointed out, but in the end it would all mean lower pay for fighters and promoters in exchange for the added exposure, which is something neither are willing to sacrifice, which is too bad.

honestly, i think the most significant changes will come when all the old school promoters simply, pass on.

one thing that would certainly help and can be put together in the short run is more internet exposure. putting ads onto popular websites, or even having hype shows on the Youtube front page before a big fight (ufc does this) could lead to hundreds of thousands or even a million hits within a day. if they don't want to dish out money for the big networks anymore, they could go for that at least.
