Imagine getting $2.5 Mil without sweating and without losing your right to fight for the belt? $2.5 mil plus a guaranteed $ 3 Mil for the fight, that's a total of $ 5.5 Mil win or lose.

Doesn't King own half of Duva?

...It would take him 4-5 fights to see that kind of money if Vitali wasn't around and he bipassed this chance.

It does seem like a good deal, but I think the 3 mil. figure might be a little deceptive 'cause what it actually says is that Peter would recieve a "50-50 purse fee split which will guarantee Peter another $3 million to fight the winner in September." Its hard to tell what they mean here really, but it seems like the 3 mil. is contingent upon a joint $6 mil. purse, so say that Vitali wins the bealt and then retires, and then Peter has to fight the #2 contender for the title. So then what happens? What if the purses are only 2 mil? or what if there is some clause in the contract that this only applies to those 2 fighters, Oleg and Vitali? Just sayin the report seems a little unclear on this to me.

Assuming that this report is correct, I have no doubt whatsoever that Duva will accept. They have spent little money training Sam Peter, and mismanaged his career like the Duvas usually do. What they want to do is make the most money off Peter the easiest way possible. They will take the guarantee, that is guaranteed!

What Peter should do is accept this. Then fight Shannon Briggs after Briggs defeats Ibragimov and try to win the WBO belt. This fight can be made because Shannon is promoted by King now so King can make this fight happen with no problems. If Peter fights Briggs in June and wins then a fight can be made between him and the Maskaev/Vitali winner in November. If all goes smoothly for Peter, 2007 can turn out to be the greatest year of Peter's life.

If this is true and most of the money will go to Peter, than its an ok deal. Remember also that the 2.5 million is making up for the sanctioning fees that Peter (or his promoter) paid twice and the sanctioning fee he will have to pay in the future. so he is really getting about 2 million and after promoters, lawyers, and taxes he will probably get 1 million. But, either way I would take the million and wait as long as I have the mandatory next shot and either guy is going to back out. Peter could take a vacation, study tapes, and use a game plan.

He would not have to fight Vitali immediately, as he would likewise be permitted a voluntary (maybe in HIS home continent, where he could build a fan base of his own. Then we're talking this time next year, and Vitali may have lost interest/ health in the meantime.

There are only two or three bad matchups for this guy, VK being at the top of the list for having the MUCH strong chin in the K family. He could hold the WBC for a few years easily and thereby make more $$ than he would by letting Vitali beat him down for 5 mill this summer.
there is no way the wbc will give Peter a voluntary defense if they let him fight Maskaev next, Klitschko will either get his shot now or right after a Maskaev-Peter fight

This will never happen, Peter will not fight unification fight. We've talked about it many times, there will be no unification as long as King holds his grip on HW champions. We had two champions wanting to fight but WBC (read Don King) did not allow it.
