"Bad" Chad Stuns Adamek To Capture WBC Crown

On the eve of Miami, Florida's Super Bowl festivities, the light heavyweights ruled the night. "Bad" Chad Dawson (23-0, 15 KOs) put on a breakout performance to capture the WBC light heavyweight title by winning a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Tomasz Adamek (31-1, 20 KOs).

Numerous experts said the 24-year-old Dawson was taking on too much, but he came close to dominating Adamek, one of best light heavyweights in the world.

The speed of Dawson appeared to give Adamek fits. The hard jab and powerful left hand was landing on the face of Adamek on a consistent basis. Round after round went by as Dawson was beating Adamek all over the ring. In the seventh round, Dawson landed a hard punch to the stomach of an off balance Adamek that sent him down.

In a key moment between the ninth and tenth rounds in the fight, trainer Buddy McGirt threatened to stop the bout if Adamek did not let his hand go. Adamek came out in the tenth round and almost did just that by landing a hard shot that sent Dawson down on his back. The young Dawson showed his will to win by using his defensive skills to offset a desperate Adamek who was trying to close the fight. [details]

Sounds like Adamek got intimidated long before he went in the ring. Perhaps fighting in his own back yard too much?

This is devastating, I can't believe he is no longer undefeated.
