    Wood to train Corrales

    Wood to train Corrales

    Saturday, February 3 2007

    By Chris Morris, RockyMountainBoxing.com

Trainer ****ie Wood in Colorado Springs is taking over the lead training duties for Diego “Chico” Corrales. Corrales is on the comeback trail after his split decision loss to Joel Casamayor in October 2006. The 5’ 11” Corrales, who was forced to give up his WBC lightweight belt when he couldn’t make weight before his rubber match against Casamayor, will be campaigning at jr welterweight. Wood is most notable as the trainer of heavyweight prospects Travis Butler, Raphael Butler and Joey Abell. Wood has a history with Corrales going back to his days in the amateur ranks. According to Wood, the fighter contacted him on Wednesday night to discuss working together. Wood plans to set up camp for Corrales in Las Vegas.

Will Corrales make any noise as a jr welterweight? I'm surprised he left Goosen because I thought everything was going great. I guess boxers nowadays have a hard time staying loyal to one trainer for most of their career. Does anyone know anything about boxing trainer ****ie Wood?

      wtf

Goosen and Corrales said that days before the third fight with Cepillo they couldn't get below 142, and all he was eating was ****ing ice cubes. How the hell is he gonna make 140? This is strange news. Goosen said that they would jump straight to Welter.

Unfortunately for Diego, he is done as a top fighter. If he can't make 140 he's screwed, cuz any of the top Welters will destroy him.

        Tito Yuca,

I totally forgot about him having to suck on ice cubes. It does seem strange. I'm thinking maybe the jr weltherweight was a typo and the writer meant welterweight. For a guy of his frame he should not be fighting at a weight lower than 147 lbs. I'm very curious in knowing why he decided to leave Goosen.
