take a look at Nicolay Valuev's record at boxrec.com, it has a bout declared no contest vs andreas sidon, if he makes 49-0, does this mean he ties Marciano's record even though he's 49-0 with 1 NC!
Valuev has NC in his record

I believe he actually won that fight, but it was ruled a no contest (Dont recall what the cause was)
a NC means the fight never took place..
His professional record is 46-0-0 -
so this goes that Hopkins should only had 19 title defenses since his no contest with robert allen was also counted as one of his title defenses.Comment

i made a thread about this a while ago.
marciano's record is not 49-0. its 49 consecutive victories. and if valuev had a NC in his 20th fight, that means he needs 49 more victories after that NC.
so no, even if valuev reaches 49-0, he doesnt tie marciano's record.
reaching marciano's record is pointless anyway. its already been broken numerous times.Comment

it does not mean the fight never took place. it means the fight had no official ending.
if the fight never took place, why are they called no contests and yet are still on the fighters record? think about it...Comment

I read the interview with Valuev where he told what took place on that night. He fought some guy, the ref stopped it in 3rd round and declared a TKO victory for Valuev. The other fighter got real mad about that and started calling Valuev names and being a real *******. That's when Valuev said that if he wants to continue, he'd love to do it. So, they started fighting without the ref or judges, right there on the ring. They fought 3 more rounds but people started throwing bottles and other **** at them, so they had to stop and leave the ring. Kind of funny. The result was later changed from TKO victory for Valuev to a NC.Comment

Sidon suffered two standing eight-counts in the first round. Valuev also dominated the second round. The referee wanted to stop the fight in the third round, although there seemed to be no reason for a stoppage at that moment. The crowd was very discontented with the ref's decision and beercups and bottles have been thrown into the ring. Sidon wanted to continue, so he persuaded Valuev to continue fighting for the full 6 rounds.i made a thread about this a while ago.

Due to fighting without a referee (who left the ring in the third round), the EBU ruled the bout as a no-contest.
Sidon later told, that it was the referee's first professional bout and that Valuev's people shouted to the referee, that he should stop the fight, otherwise Valuev might hurt Sidon. Sidon also said, that the timekeeper shortened the later rounds, due to Valuev having conditioning problems.Comment
