my two favorite prospects both had fights on the tye fields/ jorge solis fight card on the vs. network.... the fights were not televised however i dug up some ringside reports for all to read...
i was a little surprised that banks failed to stop page in 8 rounds but looking at pages record, though he isnt all that good, he seems to be tough... he has only been knocked out once.. by alonzo butler at heavyweight.... and he had fought to a split decision loss to dominic guinn about a month and a half prior to losing to banks.....
here is the banks report...........................
In a lackluster performance, undefeated cruiserweight Johnathon Banks (14-0, 10 KOs) won his eight-round bout against Zack Page (11-10-1, 3 KOs).
In round one, Banks stalked his adversary, laboring to establish his jab. In round two, Banks snapped back the head of his foe with a strong left jab. The second round saw both fighters continue to fight as cautiously as they did in round one.
In round three, a big right by Banks sent Page reeling into the ropes. Another big right by Banks forced Page to clutch and grab just to hold himself up. Page survived the third round and recovered well, mounting a comeback in round four. Page landed a right hand to the top of Banks' head in the fourth.
Page continued to press the action in the fifth round. Then, a big right by Banks landed upstairs and momentarily stunned Page. Another strong one-two combination by Banks found its mark. In the sixth and seventh rounds the crowd grew restless because of the lack of action in the ring.
In the eighth round, Banks responded to the critics by rising to his toes and increasing the action and exchanges. Banks' movement created angles that allowed him to land his double jab upstairs and hooks to the body.
The undefeated Banks was declared the winner by unanimous decision by scores of 79-73, 79-73 and 78-74. There were no knockdowns.
here is the Andy Lee report:
The 2004 Irish Olympic representative Andy Lee (7-0, 4 KOs) won by TKO in his middleweight bout against Arturo Ortega (12-3-3, 7 KOs).
Lee completely outclassed Ortega, building a large lead before the bout was finally stopped in the sixth round.
Ortega could not find his way inside the reach of Lee, who demonstrated superior footwork and a solid defense. In round one, Lee landed a straight left to the midsection of Ortega, followed up by a double right hook upstairs.
In round two, Ortega finally broke through Lee’s guard and landed a couple of body shots. Although the second round was Ortega’s best round, it was still not enough to steal the momentum from Lee who was firmly in control of the bout.
In round three, a Lee right hook upstairs stunned Ortega. Later in the round, Ortega was stunned again by a short right hook. Lee followed up by unloading a flurry of unanswered shots including a series of devastating body shots. Unable to mount an attack, Ortega ate jab after jab in round four. Lee put his fancy footwork on display in round five. A one-two combination hurt Ortega. It was then that the bout turned into target practice for Lee who continued to land his power shots at will and jabs with mounting frequency.
Lee continued round six where he left off in the previous round, landing his punches at will. Ortega had absorbed too much punishment, and, on the advice of Ortega's corner, referee Kenny Bayless called a halt to the bout at 0:32 of round six, declaring the undefeated Lee victor by TKO.
