What exactly happened with McCline?

That should be changed to a NC. McCline was actually doing much better than I expected. He was calm and landed some good combos. At first when I heard about it, I thought he might have taken a fall. I was wrong, you can easily see his knee cap sticking out of place.Comment

I'm not sure that Mccline's injury warrants a NC ruling. I'm not completely sure but I think when the injury is not caused by the other fighter ie Valuev accidently steps on his foot, the ruling is a TKO by injury. That should be changed to a NC. The first two rounds were really slow and Valuev edged both of them, but nothing really happened. Valuev landed a good shot in the 2nd. McCline landed more good shots in the 3rd round than Valuev had in all three rounds combined. He was really starting to pick it up by fighting a more to the inside. I don't know why guys always stand at the end of Valuev's reach. Too bad McCline got hurt like that. Just another inflated win on Valuev's record. I'm not sure what it is I have against that guy, but I really want someone to beat him.Comment

McCline is the worst puncher I've ever seen at heavyweight in a pound for pound sense. His punches look so light and harmless, even James Toney with his horrible KO record at heavyweight at least lands with some impact and snap. He hits with the same degree of bad intentions and snap as Chris Byrd, except he has the 270 lbs going for him. If he were Byrd's size, guys would walk right through those punches, he would not even be as dangerous as Chris.
Valuev got off lucky, and honestly the guy just doesn't know how to land punches himself. He rarely ever lands flush but at least he can let his shots rip when he's feeling confident, unlike McCline who just seems pillow fisted and soft, despite his massive build.
I feel bad for McCline though, he really turned his life around with boxing and seems like a gentle fellow (maybe too gentle for the sport), but this may be the end of the line for him.
Watching that video I am so confident that:
1. 5'8" James Toney would have beaten the crap out of McCline if that happened went along as planned and probably still would (assuming McCline can rehabilitate the knee and continue his career)
2. Valuev will not be a champion for long.
3. These big heavyweights suck, except for the Klitschkos. It's just that few of the smallers guys have enough skill and balls to negate the size difference.Comment

Actually if you watch carefully, in the 3rd Valuev landed maybe 20% less than McCline did, but he landed way more than in rounds 1 and 2.
Valuev does well in late rounds. He rarely wins the starting rounds. That he did so well at the beginning surprised me.
The stoppage was disappointing. This was the first real competitive fight for Valuev at this level, and too bad we did not see it. It is bad for either fighter.Comment

I think McCline would beat Toney, just like he beat Byrd. McCline is a better boxer than Peter, and has better reach and height adantage.Comment

I know a lot of people talk about McCline's power, but his shots always looked ok to me. He certainly doesn't have big power, that's for sure, but the notion that he's a powder-puff puncher seems a bit unfair to me. Some of those shots he hit Valuev with seemed reasonable shots.
Hey he stopped Charles Shufford, and Samuel Peter couldn't get rid of him, lol.Comment

He does not punch with the same authority as Peter. Toney would not be daunted by McCline's sorry excuse for punching. He'd get inside and rip to that big soft body and take all the fight out of him. McCline's body language in fights tells me he does not belong in boxing. He does not want to be there.Comment
