    FNF Main event Bailey-Warrick off?

    Bailey-Warrick Bout in Jeopardy!

    Wednesday, January 17, 2007

    By Gary "Digital" Williams
*********.com has learned that this Friday's nationally televised bout between former WBO Junior Welterweight champion "The Knock-Out King" Randall Bailey and Michael Warrick may not take place.

According to Warrick's manager, former three-time world champion Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson, a recent examination of Warrick uncovered a hole in the retina of one of Warrick's eyes.

"I spoke to people at Warriors Boxing (who are co-promoting the event) and they said that they will send Mike to a specialist to get a second opinion," Johnson said.

Warrick, who hails from Landover, MD, is coming off a devastating ninth-round TKO loss to Demetrius Hopkins on June 7. Warrick (18-4, 11 KO's) was to challenge Miami, FL's Bailey (34-5, 31 KO's) for his IBA Intercontinental Junior Welterweight title on ESPN2.

An interesting footnote to this story is that Warrick negotiated for the bout with Bailey without Johnson's managerial assistance. Johnson has managed Warrick since 2004.

"I made Mike the most money that he has ever made," Johnson said. "I was able to get his contract from Don King in a week to two weeks time. When Mike beat Emmanuel Augustus (in 2003) he made $6500. I got his contract and in his first bout with me, he made $7500 and the next day, I got him a signing bonus of $5,000. I brought Mike back after two losses and he got his biggest payday in the Hopkins fight ($15,000)."

"This was a fight that I didn't pick for him," Johnson continued. "But I'm still a businessman and still Mike's manager so I will be getting paid or we'll be in court."

"I was concerned about Mike's health after the Hopkins fight," Johnson said. I wanted to bring him back against lesser opposition around the Beltway for less money and then move him forward to the bigger fights."

Johnsons seems like he knows what he is doing. And i belive he is right that Warrick should get an easier fight, but im sure the money is good for a fight with Bailey.

        You're joking right?

Warrick was beating Hopkins. And Baily, can still put on a good show. But, yeah, if they can put better fights, im all for it. But lets not sell this fight short. Warrick is the guy that got ko'd unconcuious by Hopkins and he is still boxing, much credit and respect for Warrick, some fighters would have retired after that lose, shows just how strongwilled Warrick is. I wish him the best.

Bailey is an exciting fighter. He puts on the pressure and likes to fight. No matter who he ends up fighting it will be a good show. You don't need big names to have an exciting fight! Looking forward to it.

I don't think there has been a more one-dimensional fighter than Bailey in the last 15 years. There was so much hype about him following his frightening KO of Demetrius Ceballos, and then he got wiped out by Hurtado on a body shot. Tsk tsk.

You're a supposed boxer, respect the bodyshots, before you end up on the floor by a bodyshot. When they land perfect...

                Ummm... no.
This is a pathetic attempt at a main event.
And FNF expects people to watch their program when they have older fighters who have no shot to win a championship???
                Its bogus.

And yeah, the fight was close, but Warrick was laid out by Hopkins and thats all that matters.
